Alan Welcome to TheDieselStop :smile2:
I assume you've fully diagnosed your sending unit to determine you need to change it. It's pretty spendy to just change on a whim, and I've not heard of many going bad. Usually it's a wiring issue or something like that (much cheaper to fix). The sending unit shows the instrument cluster a resistance of 15 ohms for empty and 160 ohms or more for full, so a broken wire would make the gauge read full all the time. I have experienced a stuck float a bunch of times, but haven't had that issue since I quit drag racing the truck. The launch would slam the float up into the recess and it would stick there. You should at least check the resistance at the sending unit plug.

But in any case, if you do open the tank, as 79jasper suggested, definitely do the hutch mod (eliminating the mixing unit on the pickup foot and the quick connect fuel line fittings) and also harpoon it (cut the projections off the filler and vent pipes that stick into the tank). For the latter, a PVC pipe cutter (shear type pliers) makes quick work of it.

Definitely the hutch but if you did decide to do the harpoon, I wouldnt cut anymore than an inch. Not too happy with my harpoon mod, fueling my nice clean truck is like watching that box you use to crank waiting for the clown to pop out.

I had a similar issue, but when I took the tank unit out I had found that the float had disintegrated. I couldn't find ANY PLACE that sold just the float. Apparently it's manufactured by a large company and they don't sell them unless it's to sending unit manufacturers. So I found a cheap $25 dollar sending unit for a boat at Wal mart and took the float from it. Same material, same size. Worked perfectly.

Update: New sending unit. My old one had a broke wire and could have been repaired, but I was already elbow deep and why risk doing this again. Also, the 2 pre-filters were filthy and about 40% clogged. Thanks for the input guys.
