Can I replace the hard metal fuel line that goes from the filter head to the IP with a quality rubber hose and fuel injection hose clamps????
Is that line high pressure?

I am trying to eliminate the rubber olives that fail and let air in. I'd have more confidence in hose clamps at this point.

I already replaced the hardline from the liftpump to the filter head bc thats low pressure.

truck has been down two months with air intrusion so the help is appreciated.
THANKS

That line is the same pressure as the filter/lift pump. I would use anything compatible with diesel fuel, and some good hose clamps. Might cause some headaches if it rubs anywhere, that would be my only concern.

10 4 thanks, I'll tie it up nice and tight, and maybe put some plastic tubing around it.

SGT Junk I'm considering this modification too, as I'm still chasing air intrusion on my beloved Big Red. What size fittings did you find worked best from the lift pump to the filter, and from the filter to the IP? Every time I think I have these issues licked, they're coming back.

Those seals (Olives) lasted 27 years. Just replace them. Hoses and clamps sometimes cause more problems. Dieselorings has the seals, $2.59 each, they come in a set .

Conestogadiesel has a specially made replacement for that line.

Yessir, me too. I replaced mine for the first time about a year and 1/2 ago after 23 years on my '91. Tightened the fittings only once in all that time.

Thanks for the lead on those olives Bill. I eliminated one recently that was at the 4 way junction that returns to the tank, because all of the return line kits only include the 2 way bonnets for the corners. I either needed to seal off an outlet or eliminate that 4th olive and I chose the later. I will definitely pick up a couple for the hardline from the filter to the IP, but it seems to me that the changeover still makes sense from the lift pump to the filter. It would make it easy to install clear line at least and detect air intrusion, all though I take your point about possibly being a source of air intrusion.

If you want to detect air intrusion at the filter, put a clear line from #1 injector to filter fuel return port, make it long enough so it's kind of flat at the top.
