from all the existing F250 drivers, what is the mileage of diesel powered vehicles versus the same vehicles powered by either option gasser ?

mine gets about 19.5 everytime I fill up
my 73 F250 390 was getting 9-11 mpg ( very similar pickup )

I just filled up today. Had 299.5 miles on that tank. Put in 25.0?? gallons. That comes out to about 12 mpg. 90 miles of that tank was pulling the trailer to a horse show yesterday. The rest of the miles were all done in town. The last few tanks used without any towing netted me around 14 mpg, again mostly in town driving.

The best I ever got was around 16 mpg on a tank. I drove 360 miles on that tank. Approximately 100 miles of that tank were towing. The remainder of the miles were empty highway miles. I've never done a full tank of only empty highway miles in this truck.

97 F-250 XLT, SC short box 3.73 rear, V-10/5spd auto: Best - 12.2 4yr average (60k miles) - 11.8 Never towed w/ it.

Truck in sig: (2.5 yrs, 47k) Best 19.9 avg 18.1

Towing 7k TT @62: 14, @70: 12. 6% grade in any direction out of valley (12 to 40 miles). Both trucks over same terrain, simular driving. Most of my driving is highway @ 70.

This is one of the reasons I purchased a PSD. Old truck was a 1994 K2500 Chevy. Lifted 2" xtra cab, long bed, 454 auto. In town driving was 60% city/40% highway. Best average was 9mpg. Towing a 7500lb 26' toyhauler resulted in 4mpg.

Now the new truck (see Sig) gets between 14-16mpg in the city and when towing the same trailer over the same route, it gets 10mpg. A much better improvement over the older truck.

I guess my engine is totally broke in now. I always get about 19.0 unloaded with a mix of city/highway. I have a 6sp and baby it most of the time. I drove all highway 2 weeks ago and averaged between 20-21. When I do put my foot into it, the mpgs drop. If you ask me that is excellent mileage for a truck that weighs over 7,500 lbs, and has 4 wheel drive. My 29 gallon tank definitely holds more than 29, the week I had all highway miles I filled up when I had 580 miles on the tank and still could of went 40-50 miles.

I have 64,100+ miles on my truck now. I average 18mpg highway back and forth to work, 100 mile round trip every day. I get this because I just adjusted cruise control set speed from 68mph to 65mph. I was averageing 16mpg at 68mph.

The most weight I have in the bed is my 600+ pound ATV, 15 gallons of extra gas for the quad and the two 12 foot aluminum ramps to get the quad into the bed and I still average 18mpg.

I have 5500 miles on my truck, and currently get 18 with a mix of highway and city.

Last tank was all highway and I got 19 mpg.

I had calculate, and am thoroghly impressed. I had a 2005 bought back, and in the 44,000 miles the best I ever did was 16 mpg.

How did you find that combo? The V10 wasn't an option in the F250 until 1999. Maybe it was the 460?

13.2 mpg since new. Mostly city and towing. Any substantial highway driving usually includes something attached to my hitch. My avarage distance before filling up is 340 miles per tank, with an avarage of 25.7 gallons needed to top it off.

Faulty memory.

It had to be an early 99 then. I had it on a 4 yr lease & turned back in in Feb 03. It was a Canadian built V-10.

Prior to that, I had a 97 F-150 on a 2yr lease.

Compare a 04-06 gasser with an 04 diesel . I am getting a constant 19+ mpg ( 45500 miles ). I don't think a gasser can do that at 7700 lbs even with a handshaker. I am lucky to get 18 with my 95 T-bird with a 4.6 auto. My friends , when conversation turns to vehicles we drive, always ask me why I bought a big diesel and " because I wanted to " doesn't cut it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

My 2003 F250 V10 got 11 around town 13 on highway 8 when towing, 2005 F350 PSD 14 around town 17 on highway and 10 when towing. All other conditions are equal: same trailer, same rear, etc.

I get between 9 and 10 towing my 26' toyhauler, hopefully it'll get a little better as the truck is still under 10k.
