I believe i have a fuel system leak in my 2000 Ford F250 7.3 liter diesel.. It has about 236000 miles on it and if you are standing in front of the truck.. the leak seems to be coming from the left side! I also smell diesel when i get out of the truck... Does anyone know what could be the problem?

Could be just the fuel bowl drain valve, on the front of the engine on the passenger side is where the drain tube goes down. There are a couiple of "O" rings that need to be replaced to fix it. Not sure of the # size of the viton "O" rings that you need, I just picked mine up from the dealership and not to hard to fix. Not much room to get to the valve is the main pita.

Ford4me2 is right on with the o rings on the bottom of the fuel bowl. It is a good candidate for the leak. My truck 99 psd killed the o rings about 4 months after our stations switched to the low sulfer diesel.. Don't know if that was the cause or not, but thats when it happened. A ten dollar bill and some dental picks will put you back in action. Another possibility that I have run across is an improperly installed O ring between the fuel filter bowl and the cap (I was the cause and the cure on this one). The O ring has a champered edge on it and if you install it upside down it will exhibit the same simptems as the lower small o rings going bad.

Found this for you. It helped me out.

Definitely DIY. The dealer will charge you for the entire valve kit (around $55), plus labor which would probably bring you up near $160. You can get a pack of 25 of the #202 Viton O-rings for about $5 and do the job yourself in about an hour. If you have an air ratchet, it might only take you 5 minutes.:icon_wink:

You'll need a #20 Torx head, and a 1/4" ratchet fits best in there.

well it seems that there was more to this leak then i thought.. not only was it leaking over the passenger side front axle, it was leaking from behind the oil pan. it was not a stream but a constant trip.. so i sent it to my friends shop to get him to diagnose the problem... hope its not to expensive

Are you sure that the leak from under your oil pan isn't fuel that's been blown to the rear of the motor?I know from experience the the valley on top of the motor holds fuel from the fuel bowl leak.I have personally done 4 of these o-ring replacements including my own truck and the info that Catch&Release gave is right on the money..

alright.. well my friends said he would take a look at it.. and only charge me for parts if i wanted him to do it.. so im just gonna see if that helps.. the leak by the oil pan was more a less a steady stream.. so i dont think it was that.. but yea.. catch and release is right on the money..
