Most of the time when a valvecover connector has melted or burned (either external or internal), the gasket must be changed as well. If you did change the gasket too, you may need to do an inspection of the under-valvecover harness(es). Cheers!

I had the same thing happen to me earlier this year. I ended up replacing all four under valve cover harnesses, both valve cover gaskets, and even the engine wiring harness! Your local auto parts store should carry a Dorman kit which includes the parts to fix one side. From the sound of it, you probably need two. Each kit has a valve cover gasket, two under valve cover wiring harnesses, and external connector pigtails. You'd have to cut and splice your existing harness to use the pigtails.
