I'm one of the guys who's mentioned that the "Cleaning Exhaust Filter" message isn't clearing (unless we clear it). Can't find who asked (in another thread) if we were getting the "Drive to Clean" message, but at the time I wasn't seeing it. We are getting that message. I've found that at times we will get the "Drive to Clean" message for a few seconds. Then it changes to "Cleaning Exhaust Filter" message for the entire time of the regen. The "Cleaning Exhaust Filter" message does clear when regen completes.

We're now headed eastbound and crossing various mountain ranges plus we're traveling longer distances per day. Generally the wife drives while towing, but the longer days are getting me behind the wheel more often. So I'm now front & center to read the messages. Generally travel at about 60 mph. We'll get a new rig weight reading tomorrow (each wheel - finally!), but generally we cross the CAT scales around 28,500 or less. I'm getting the "Drive to Clean" message when I floor it to merge or move into faster traffic in the left lane to pass a slower rig when climbing. Not flooring it seems to cut down how often we see the "Drive to Clean" message.

My thoughts are that when we're traveling solo (no trailer), we're not catching that quick "Cleaning Exhaust Filter" message. I'm thinking we're only seeing it when we're heavy and creating a lot of soot.

Long enough thread...sorry! David

I have an '09 450 with similar situation--very interested in what answers you get. Did have the 11B23 update done last May, maybe 7000 miles on it since then. Trailer weighs 17K.
Very inconsistent regens--2 have been as long as 41 and 43 minutes. When solo, sometimes I catch the CEF when it pops on and regens are 10-15 mins; when towing, get "Drive to Clean" and it stays on thru the cycle.
Had in in shop recently for this--replaced the fan clutch as it had a code, but tech wrote in notes that I should not stop during regen cycle? Don't remember doing this but once over 6 months ago.

Dont u like the "shouldnt stop during regen" line. It's a bs wAy of passing it on the driver. Too many variables come into play when it comes to whether or not u can drive and when the message pops up. An operator option to enable is the only sensible option for this.

What does one do when the CEF message comes on while driving thru the city. Are we to run red lights and just tell the cops that Ford says I shouldn't stop during a REGEN?

Kidding aside. I have had the message come on a few times while driving thru town. I have no option but to stop in traffic.

I don't know. I'd like to see the look on the officer's face, though. Try it and let us know what happens. :) David
