Gas gauge and Miles to Empty
My low fuel light has been coming on when the trip meter says I have used 25 gallons of gas and the gas gauge reads about 1/8 of a tank. The miles to empty says about 40, but isn't counting down mile for mile as I drive.
When I have filled up, I have put in about the same amount as the trip meter says I have used.
I thought this truck was supposed to have a 35 gallon tank? There can't be 10 gallons of "reserve" can there?
I have only filled it up a few times since I only have 1000 miles. Is there some kind of self-calibration the system needs to go through with more use?
Is mine normal compared to the other trucks? I have a dealer appointment for Monday hoping they will find the computer is programmed for the wrong tank size or something like that.

I wouldn't put too much trust in those "miles until empty" numbers. They are seldom accurate. We had a customer bring his new F350 in for a complaint that would require test driving it to determine that source of the problem but the customer only had about 1/8 tank of fuel when he left it at the dealership. The technician got in it, realized how low it was on fuel and noted on the repair order that he could not test drive it due to insufficient fuel. The customer came in and was angry that his truck was not worked on. We explained that a technician that is paid $25.00 an hour can not take time away from working to go to the diesel station that is 5 miles away (in city traffic) or take a chance on running the vehicle out of fuel. The owner pointed out that his "miles until empty" message showed he had 34 miles before it would run out of fuel. We explained that they were not entirely accurate but he left in a huff. He called about 15 minutes later REALLY mad because it ran out of fuel before he made it to the gas station.
Is there a real mechanical level sensor in the gas tank? What triggers the low fuel light on the dash?

Not sure about the 2015 but up to 2014 the long bed trucks have a 35 gallon tank, short bed trucks have a 26 gallon tank.
All 6.2's long or short bed have 35 gallon tanks.
I just filled up yesterday.

I went to the dealer today with my trip computer saying 28 gallons used and 8 miles to empty. They plugged the computer in and confirmed the truck is setup for a 35 gallon tank and said my tank was 8% full which is 2.8 gallons remaining.
I filled it up and put in 31.6 gallons; the trip computer said 28.5 gallons used at that time so it was reading about 3 gallons short.
This tank was all city driving so maybe that throws the computer off some. I'll just have to get some miles on it and either it will learn my driving or I will learn how the system is going to work.

Ive heard this before but my 2014 short bed 6.2 has never come anywhere close to putting in 35 gallons. its always around 26.All 6.2's long or short bed have 35 gallon tanks.

I never pay much attention to the Mile to Empty readings...they are nice but vary with the average mpg of the truck as you drive it....I use Trip Meter A....when i fill up, I reset Trip Meter A and the MPG screens...then I check the number of gallons used on the Trip Meter A as i travel on a trip...more accurate than Miles to Empty in my simple mind

I would be very interested in the data from you running it dry. I ran mine on 0 miles to empty for 15 miles or so and put in ~34 gallons if I remember correctly. I generally fill up when the trip meter says ~30 gallons used and put in 32 or so.

Im at 150K miles so I have had many fillups and the most I ever got into my tank was 32.2 gallons and the needle was pegged on empty and the low fuel message was on.
I think there is a 2-3 gallon "cushion" on the 6.2 If indeed it has the 35 gallon tank.

When I bought my truck the salesmen told me I have about 32 usable gallons in the tank. The most I've been able to put in is 30 gallons.
It's also worth noting that how the truck sits when you fuel it can add or reduce the amount you can get in it. My F450 and F450 had 62 gal Titans in them but the filler game in about 2' in front of the back of the tank. If it was leaning right to left and back to front there was a two gallon air bubble in there.

Drive it till the light comes on then pull into the gas station and fill up. That's the way I do it
I know I’m late to the club on this one. But I am having a very similar issue. I bought a 2013 F250 6.2L lariat that had about 123k on it. Filled up one time before needing to have some work done to it and spent about $72 @ about $2.80 at the time. So about 26 gallons were put in. So after being in the shop for 2 weeks, I got it back and noticed it plowed through a tank of gas. Having the similar thought that this truck has a 35 Gal tank on it, which it does.(unless in the work that was done they “switched it”/ which I would be livid about) Then I started trying to track what was being used. Filled up and within 11.3 miles it went from a full tank to 3/4. I used 21.6 gallons before filling up again between 1/4 and Empty. It took exactly 21.7 to fill it back up. Yet again, within 13 miles it had gone from full to 3/4 of a tank. I’ve gone right at 200 miles on this tank so far and it reads just a pinch above 1/4 a tank with only 15.7gallons burned so far. At this point I should still be over half a tank. Anyone have any solutions or thoughts on this? You can burn out your fuel pump by running the tank too dry. That's probably why Ford set it up to get you to fuel up before the fuel level in the tank gets too low and overheats the fuel pump and burns it out. It's good practice to fill up whenever the fuel gauge says 1/4 tank. That way, you will protect your fuel pump and keep it from burning out so soon.

I agree. And usually I do. But at this point, I would be filling up every 200 miles only burning 16gallons on what should be a 35gallon tank going between 425-450miles depending on MPG
