I am considering buying a 1997 F-250 7.3 diesel with only 100,000 miles on it. I don't, at this time, have any plans to do any heavy duty towing. I am just curious or your thoughts.. Is it worth it or should I just stick with a half ton F-150. The reason I'm considering this is because I want to get a truck that will last me a long time and quite frankly I just love the old ford body styles.

IMO if your choice is between a diesel or a F150... that tells me everything LOL.

the diesel will cost more to buy and in maintenance. if something break in a diesel, it can get expensive really quick. If you dont tow or work with the truck, i'll suggest to go with the half ton. take a real good care of it and it will last.

but this is just my opinion, if you really want a diesel, go for it.

welcome aboard!!!!

Welcome to TDS.

Yan hit the nail on the head...these Diesels are made for work and their operating cost is much higher than a gasser...and they are slower (unless you plan to put alot of money into Mods).

Just a quick example, just the cost for materials for an oil change using Synthetic is about $100.

But you have found a very low mile 1997 and you could always sell it in a year if its not for you.

Keep us posted.
