Hi guys

My truck was sitting from last Saturday to yesterday due to the torn boot. I did turn the truck on and let it run for a few minutes every other day but I got a problem.

When I drove the truck yesterday while it was cold the EGT gauge would show 0 then after it warmed up it would give me a normal reading but then it would get wacky and drop to 300 instantly after I let off the throttle it has never done that before. Then I would get back in it but if would not move then I a few minutes later it would be working again.

Today The EGT gauge is giving me wacky readings again. When I was in the throttle it was showing normal egts but when I let off it would go straight to 0 then it would jump up to 300 while cruising.

All the connections are in place on the gauge but I have not gone underneath yet.

I am thinking its a grounding issue. What are your thoughts?

thanks,
Andrew

Their is no shrink rap at the gauge. I checked the wires at the back of the gauge they are not touching.

Their is shrink rap (black shield) on each of the wires under the engine I moved the two away from each other but i have not driven the truck yet.

thanks

have you checked the ground?

I followed the red and yellow wires they go down near the probe. I did not see any wires grounded /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Crawl under the truck, check the ground and the probe connection, the probe should be good and tight also (that's a ground). Betcha the problem is right there.

Let's see if we can do this in one page. I betcha we can.

I crawled underneath there again. I wiggled the probe it seems tight. I separated the red and yellow wires (that are near the probe) from each other again I drove the truck now it doesn't go down to 0 but when I was in the 120 setting when I would let off the throttle the egts seemed to fall a little faster then normal I mean it was really fast /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif but when I came to a stop sign they would stay at 600 did not go down while I was checking for traffic.

my autometers will do the same thing every once in a while. usually when we get some rain or the humidity is really high. it'll work fine then the needle will start jumping all over the place. it's alway straitens it'self out so i haven't worried about it. i'm sure it's just a bad connection somewhere. it doesn't take much corrosion to mess with the signal.

Andrew, you notice some of the people on here trying to help are the same ones in the "OTHER POST"????
This seems like a nice post to join in, Not bashing, but if you install your own stuff, it makes for easier troubleshooting if there are problems down the road! (Plus you get that warm fuzzy feeling doing things yourself!) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif
The "Yellow wrapped" 2 wire harness going down from the guage you should have two connections somewhere near the bottom, (within 12" or so of the probe I bet.) (Two eyelets screwed together with small screws and nuts) These should be inside some shrink wrap. Check those and make sure they are tight, you may have a loose connection at one of those.)

This would be the first place I would check as well.

Also, I had a thermocouple go bad on mine causing similar symptoms.

I talked to the shop its covered under warranty so I am going to stop by tomorrow to get it replaced. The guy there said also said it sounds like the probe is going bad.

thanks,

Isspro stands behind their stuff and it does sound like a bad sensor. Let me understand this right. You installed your own injectors but you paid somebody to install your gauges ??? Actually now that I recall the injector install maybe that was a smart decision. JKing!!! Hang on to those rags, lol!!!

as i recall from his video, some other dude in the military was installing his injectors while andrew filmed the carnage . so the gauge install was probaly not woithin his ability. ive swapped my own injectors but have had no desire to tacle electrical crap. but i would have called the place that installed them before i asked questions because thats what ended up happening anyways.

ROFLMAO ..... I was just filming the work. I did about 80% of the work. Anyways back on subject. When I bought the truck it had gauges on it but the pyro did not work and it was mounted post turbo. I had a new one put in and they drilled into the manifold. Now it is giving me funny #s and I called they said they would replace it under warranty /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif
