I ordered a new powermax and was wondering if it would be worth ebaying my old turbo and vgt or should I hang onto it? Not anything I will need off of it is there? It's still on the truck now but just gonna be sitting around after I change over and figure by the time the powermax goes out the truck should be about dead anyhow

You'll get a couple hundred for it on fleabay. Might want to check the shaft end play and post what you find (lateral/in out shaft movement). Could help sell it.
The 03 turbo used to be sought after because of the louder whistle by those that wanted the noise. Then Powermax has a louder whistle with better performance capability, so once that came out, the stocker isn't worth that much.

You are going to have a tune written for it, arent you?

yes I am. I had checked the play on the intake side a few weeks ago when I worked on truck and still felt new I'm hoping the exhaust is the same. I did'nt figure I would need it but figured I better ask before pawning it off. I saw the vgt was expensive itself but since a new one came with the powermax no need for it. Had a buddy ask about it for his buick but was'nt sure how it would work. It would be ok if he has external gate shouldnt it?

I don't know too much about the turbo world, but I find it hard to believe that your buddies Buick would be able to generate enough of a flow to be of any advantage. He would have to come up with a way to use the existing VGT solenoid. The internal vanes (on the exhaust/drive side) are controlled by that solenoid, directing air around the drive wheel. That controls the boost output since it is a one-piece shaft.
Also, because it is a one-piece shaft, if you checked shaft play on the boost side, it will be exactly the same measurement on the exhaust side (1 piece all the way through with 2 wheels on either end).

cool! the buick has a precision 70mm on it now with a 67 hot side. He is wanting a little bigger but I dont even know what size the factory turbo for a 6.0 is so just told him I didnt know if it would work. I didnt know how the vgt worked so didnt know if it would work without it or not. That kinda sucks. The turbo that was on the car when I had it got some shaft play and had to have a new housing when it was done so I try to check that stuff when I can

Best bet is seal it up and save it. If you have a issue with the power max you won't be down. A turbo last min is some times hard to find. Just make sure it is dry and sealed.
