Bought the truck 17 months ago. GP History unknown. All of the old were BERU.

While replacing all 8 GPs with ZD-11, I found #3 GP very heavy with carbon on the sleeve (not the element). The other 7 were clean (photo).

Threads are good and the new GP snugged to 14 ft-lbs solid.
It Ohms fine.

Suggestions?
Bad Injector o-ring?

The carbon build-up extends up above the threads. This makes me think it might have come loose at some point in the hole.

It did not feel loose as I started to untighten it but I think the carbon had seized the threads.

Sound reasonable?

I think it must have not been torqued properly when installed. I can't think of anything else that would allow carbon to deposit up to and including the threads.

I'd agree it wasn't properly installed. They seal at that shoulder down near the tip. I suppose it's also possible there was a defect in the sealing surface (tapered seat).

Thanks Kevin,
I think I will pull the valve cover and check it at around 2,000 miles.
