Not to long ago i replaced the glow plug relay on my 97 psd. Ever since then my batteries have seemed to be discharging. As long as i drive the truck every day i have no problem, but if i park it for a day or 2 i have to charge the batteries back up to start it. I guess my question is, is there a worng way to hook up the glow plug relay?

did you replace the gpr when you did the gp's... there has been previous posts on starter relays being used instead of gpr. the starter relay will drain your batteries.

Thats what i was thinking. Ive sold a blue million of em at work and never put any thought into being a certain way to put them on. Yes i replaced both the the glow plugs and the relay at the same time, and I used the glow plug relay. I was looking both up while at work (i work at a local carquest) and i noticed the glow plug relay we had on the shelf had a 2 wire harness on it. Whats up with that. I was goin to swap it as a defect, one of the perks of the job lol, do i discard the 2 wire plug in harness as my 97 psd doesnt have that

The glowplug relay must be the case-isolated type of relay. If the case is grounded, the glowplugs will not turn off. Cheers!

i had a similar problem last week,
Excavator Jim informed me of the mishap in the box stores,
mine was from advance.
after truck runs for aboout 5 minutes, that will give you ample time for the gpr to stop its function, at this point check both posts, you should read - 12+/-v on one and 0v on the other this will tell you that the gpr is working . if you have 12 v on both after 5 min. sneak out of carquest without your boss seeing you and go to napa for a gpr 109.
it will most likely be a choclate brown color unit..

after i swapped mine out, my truck runs and charges like a million bucks..
good luck

Like Pat said the case must be isolated...starter motor relays the case is not isolated. Check the two big posts on the GPR with the key off. If there is power on both big posts you have the wrong relay.

I believe the relay solenoid gets its power from the same ignition circuit as the PCM and the fuel bowl heater, so if the key is in the off position it will not activate (regardless of the case being grounded or not.)
