GM Selling Allison

That is perhaps the saddest automotive news I have ever heard. Allison has of course been a stalwart division of GM since WWII. I wonder if they will sell off Chevrolet next.

Wow! Allison is a money maker. That can only mean that GM is in worse shape than we all thought. It also means that they will have to get trannys from some other source, probably from Allison, who will belong to the Carlyle group. Selling the money maker to drum up quick cash in exchange for deeper financial trouble later. OR, maybe they are going to install cheaper trannys from some other company, but I doubt it.
Carlyle and Onex don't build anything themselves, they just buy up companies they believe they can make money on, and they've been very successful doing so. But that can only last so long, then you own everything worth buying.

The Detroit News article says the Baltimore unit that builds transmissions for SUVs and pickup trucks will be retained by GM.
