What warranty was he going to provide for his "just as good as BTS" transmission?
Many years ago I asked the local franchise about fixing a manual (CH465 4sp) transmission-- I knew what the problem was, a broken snap ring from a certain corporation's fixation on saving a penny regardless of the consequences[1]-- they quoted about 1200 in constant dollars for tear down/rebuild plus whatever had to be fixed. I figured the warranty would be something pretty bad, like 30 days, but I was wrong. It was 0. Hit the road and don't call us.... I decided their quality probably matched the warranty and did the work myself.
[1] this vintage Blazer had numerous "cost reductions" that failed, in the case of the transmission, the failed snap ring was no longer sold, a spacer sleeve was sold instead. Earlier vintages used a different method. This made it obvious that someone screwed up. The snap ring retained 2nd on the countershaft, the snap ring literally wore so thin it shattered from the thrust to spin up 2nd [2nd as in L123] during shifting.
After this I refused to buy vehicles from that manufacturer. Besides, Ford's alloys are superior, so far... unless all the US mfgr start a faster race to the bottom anyway.

AAMCO used to have a contract that stated they would "refurbish" the transmission, no language that they rebuild it. Look up refurbish in the dictionary. They could wipe off the grease and it could be considered refurbished legally which basically means a freshening, not a specific rebuild type. Weasel words of fine print to get them off the warranty hook in my opinion. It has worked as a customer reduction plan for me, I will pass on their services if they still do that contract or not.
