Good mechanic in Alaska?

9030 Views 14 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  AKLONESTAR
I am still wrestling with an large oil leak, and I cant figure out where it is coming from. I am going to break down and take it in to someone who knows where to go from here, but I dont know of any good diesel mechanics in AK near Anchorage. I saw an ad for "Powerstroke Alaska" Any one dealt with them? I am tempted to take it to them rather than Advanced Diesel or even Cummins NW (will they even work on an International PSD?) because Powerstroke Alaska appearently only works on PSDs. Thanks for any advice.

Re: One reason why Alaskan trucks might be in such bad shape...

"Ugly BP Green?" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif I prefer "unique" BP Green! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I've even still got the red "accent" stripe. Did remove the numbers though. Love the rear heater in the winter too! Only way some of us can afford a PSD, have had 2 '83 6.9s and swore I'd never get another. One even had an ATS turbo. Wanted a PSD since test driving one in '95 and finally was able to afford one 2.5 years ago. Got one built 5/95 with 50,000 miles, very good interior, no leaks, body in great shape and the seat springs weren't hashed for $8,500. Didn't even try to dicker on price. I know it has been idled ALOT and probably used hard BUT I've put 25,000 miles on it, have had to replace 5 glowplugs, one glowplug relay, one valve gasket/harness, 2 CPS, and rebuild the tranny (which I knew was weak when I bought it.) So for about $11,000 I still consider it a good deal. Even if the thing is DOA right now with I hope a bad IPR I'd buy another in a heartbeat.
I agree with Jim, we don't see many posts by Alaskan's with problems and considering the winter weather, the wonderful daily drive many have and the number of PSD around most must be doing well, mine sure has until now, but I expect it to be up and running soon thanks to help from others on here (PSD_Alaska & Alaskan.)
Guess you hit a nerve... Good trucks can be had off the slope.
