Install went pretty easy. I put the thing down under the ashtray and don't have any trouble reading it. Ran the boost line over to the rubber boot the steering shaft goes through, that worked slick. Getting to the b ack side of my fuse box to tap the #10 fuse was a nightmare, but I finally got it. Now I have a problem. The biggest hills I could find around here only gave me 4 or 5 lbs max. Wife said we could hook up to the 6 horse and fill it up, that'd give me more load. I know a stock stroker only makes 12 to 15, right? At the moment this thing is a bone stock 94 with 210K on it. Hoping to to a Tymar and DP to 4" this summer.

Check all your connections for tight Aaron. Maybe even kinked the line on the way in, those numbers are well down from where they should be. As long as the truck is running good you know to chase the gauge install. My truck ran 17 lbs. before any mods.

The most I can get with tymar and 3" dp is 22-25 lb boost. That is taching about 3100rpm then flooring it till it red lines. I still don't have the smaller housing on like my sig says. Normal cruising around town I'll only hit 12-15lb if I'm lucky.

Was those numbers just cruiseing up the hill in 5th and mashing on it? If so dro it down to about 3rd and hammer down up to red line. I think you will see more boost that way.

I've taken it to redline in 4th and 5th with about the same results, 5 or 6 lbs tops. The truck seems to run good, but I'll admit that I don't get the milage that others get here with similar setups. 5 spd, 4.10s, I do have 235 on the rear instead of the 215's, need new rubber anyway, so that might change, get about 15 highway. I'm positive that I got the line installed right, but I'll double check the connections. Might get a regulator from work and check the gauge through my boost line just to make sure. I'd about bet the injectors are original and I've read that they need work at 150 to 175K or so. Should check my intake gaskets and whatnot. I've never heard the turbo hardly at all in this thing, even when towing loads.

I had the same problem, 7lbs top boost, no turbo whine...put in a remanufactured turbo and went back to 17-20lbs. Hope this helps.

I was very disappointed when I installed my boost gauge because it would only get up to 12 psi no matter what. A few months later I installed a downpipe and gutted the ebpv and the boost pressure went way up to about 20psi. I found that the ebpv was stuck about have way shut. So I would check your connection and checkout the ebpv if I were you.

check or unplug the exhaust back pressure sensor. If it's screwed the ECU will defuel and you'll never see any boost. When we got our truck it was acting like yours (6-8lbs boost). Since then I gutted the EBPV, aftermarket downpipe, and disconnected the exhaust back pressure sensor and I can now get 14-16psi boost with a more or less stock setup.

same symptoms here also ...

put the gauges and a bullydog box in today

normal max boost is 10 psi

pulled a long hill on the interstate with my 36" buckshots and a pipeliner in the back and it CREEPED up to 18 psi ... is this the max for the stock turbo?

1)where is the exhaust back pressure senson?
can i just run without it?

2)what/where is the EBPV?
i've worked on a cummins turbo before and have seen a wastegate on a HX-35 ... something similiar to that? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

thanks for any help

Where is the back pressure sensor? I know about the EBPV mod, that was in the plan when I do the DP. Will I get a CEL if I un-plug it? I don't have and can't afford a scanner. Of course, I can't afford a turbo either. I know the EBPV worked this summer. Truck runs and drives good, pulls just fine, but I'm way short on boost numbers.

The exhaust back pressure sensor is up top/center of the engine kinda above the fan. Follow the tubing off the passenger side manifold around until it ends at the sensor. I tried cleaning the tube (known to get blocked with carbon) but no luck. I disconnected the sensor and I got the boost back, no CEL at all either. I havn't gotten around to getting a "dongle" for the sensor which basically tells the computer "everything is good" as far as back pressure is concerned. But for now it works great with the sensor unplugged.

15 mpg is great for what you got!!! also not sure how much the downpipe is hurting you... a lot i'm sure but i put gauges after i had installed mine. but seriously with dp and no cat and nothing else i got 23 psi wot on freeway about 80-85 and 3000 rpms. but 10 psi is nothing to hit 17 psi easily around town getting on it in between shifts especially your 5 speed. not sure how you hooked your gauge up... i did mine alot different than others here. i have a soft elbow that i use. basically the gauge line just slips into it. if you got one of those make sure it is not bottomed out. i made that mistake before. after overboosting what that soft elbow could handle and blowing the line out. anyway check that if you got it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif
post a picture of how you got it tee'd in under the hood.
