I went in today to do the first time CA smog test. It failed becasue the check engine light was on. I did not know that becasue the light is not working. Here is my question. (It failed reading code P0475. "Exaust pressure control Valve Malfunction") Is this something a regular person like myself can replace or correct? What is involved? Thanks for your input.!
I had the DP tuner removed for the test... Thanks!

You should be able to handle it. Check and make sure the EBPV is plugged in. It is located on the frontside of the turbo on the pedistal, down low. If that is good, the next thing to check is the EBP sensor and tube. Go to the passenger front tire towards the front and look at the exhaust manifold. There is a tube on the top front corner. Make sure it isn't broken off or has any holes in it. That tube goes to the sensor, which is located on the top front of the engine. Carefully remove the connector and then the sensor. The end of the sensor has a little hole, which can become plugged up with soot and carbon. Prick the hole out, but be careful you don't damage the sensor. There is only about a 1/4" you need to be concerned about. The tube itself can also become plugged and can be cleaned out with brake cleaner and weed-wacker line. Also check while you are spraying to ensure there are no holes in the tube

Malfunction
Indicator
Lamp.

One problem with Calif Smog check: it WILL NOT pass if the MIL is on, no matter what caused it. Working on an Isuzu trooper that won't pass due to MIL light and it's for the fuel level sensor.

Not to change the subject but I've got a first Cali smog check coming up in the next month. The only alterations I've got are an AFE cold air intake and an Edge Evolution Programmer. Is the programmer all I have to worry about and do I just need to unplug it or do I have to have it not visible at all?

Tinman yes it was the EBP sensor and tube was plugged with soot. I am all good now. Except my wallet is empty from a trip to the DMV...
