It has come to my attention that if we have the ability to offer a group purchase discount on any product, we are not allowed to announce it without becoming an advertizer here. I have also just found out that someone has been trying to help us out on group purchases coordinated with the Dodge Turbo Diesel Registry website. This has also been killed by moderators on Ford-Diesel.com. I would like to see a new Forum added specifically for Group Purchases and special deals. Who do I have to contact to make it happen? Anyone else interested? If there is the perceived desire for this forum to be created, then we can make it happen!!!

I have suggested the same thing. There are many other InfoPop-powered car and truck sites like this one that offer such a forum for Group Purchases. Perhaps you will be more successful than I.

Recently, in a post to the F-D.com forum entitled "Group purchases??????WHY NOT MODERATORS," a topic that has been locked, by the way, JLester makes the statement "If you have ideas on how to implement group purchases with the website (and not use the forums), let me know" (as an aside, it is sad that JLester asks for ideas then locks the thread
). Very simple. Create a new forum specifically for that purpose. You would not use "the" forums you speak of, you simply create "a new" stand-alone forum for this purpose, a new forum that members and supporting vendors and advertisers may use.

Support for this idea from the membership is the big problem here. There are very, very few members who will ask for a change like this, although it would seem a great way promote a vendor's product and do a favor to the membership that made F-D.com what it is. I suppose another problem is that F-D.com will apparently not allow GP's on any product from any vendor that does not pay an advertising fee to F-D.com.

By the way, this thread probably does not belong in the Upgrades and Aftermarket forum. I am very surprised that the thought police aren't all over it by now.

I figure by Sunday morning this topic will have been erased. If there ever was an example of big brother, here it is. This is the perfect way to kill off competition. As I said previously, if I wanted to pay retail, I'd buy locally...
I guess I could create a new Group Purchase Ford Diesel website...

No, it won't be erased, but it's completely off topic in this forum, so I'll move it to the Ford-Diesel.com forum where the Webmaster might see it.

Yep. The Webmaster has stated over and over - if you don't like the rules on this website, find another one, or start your own where you can make any rules you want.

There are more than a million other websites out there for you to surf.

To me, there seems to be a troubeling trend of people asking for something for nothing. Jason is running this site for FREE! If some of you want the group purchase forum pay the man. This is my opinion..everybody has one

In my opinion, the free exchange of information and ideas has always been the best part of the WWW or Internet or what ever you personally would like to call it. "Something for nothing," you might well say. This sort of "something for nothing" exchange of information and ideas has made this a very successful site.

I agree, but it is not free for Jason who provides this service. All you guys and girls who want group discounts can use e-mail or start a web page. I love this site because it has given me an education on the PS. Just coming in here reading gives me a pretty good idea of the time involved to maintain this site. And because this site is Free (for the users), a lot of information which you will never find on the "pay per view" pages gets published. This is all I have to say about this subject.
Great job Jason & moderators.

The whole point of Ford-Diesel.com is to provide information to its' members. By restricting the ability of members to offer special deals to other members smacks of being bought out by advertizers. We never had this problem before advertizers were on this website. By muzzling the ability to provide information on better prices, it could be construed that the head cheese has sold us out.
I still think the best solution would be a seperate group purchase forum. Most people understand that if they purchase a product in a group purchase via the internet, they are not entitled to the same level of customer service as those paying retail or close to retail to one of the specialty shops advertizing here.
Last week, I proposed a group purchase on Spearco Water Injection systems and was not so nicely told that it was inappropriate. Well, 'scuse me for offering to help save members money. It seems that it is alright to offer a group purchase on something as long as you advertize here, which raises the costs and negates the advantage of a group purchase.
Which brings up another thought. Create the new Group Purchase forum, with the understanding that there is a small (1-3%) additional surcharge to be paid by the buyer to Ford-Diesel.com. This would help to pay for the server space and the other costs required to maintain the website. Do it on the honor system and require the person organizing the group purchase to provide a list of the purchasers to Ford-Diesel.com if the honor system isn't working.

That would work for me. Jason Lester, your comments please?

No group purchase forum, end of story.

I asked for alternatives since we don't want to use the forum .. but no one seems to have a better plan. I closed that topic because group purchases in the forums are definitely off limits. The last time it was tried here it caused way too much headache for myself, the moderators, the person starting the topic, and the vendors involved. A good honest vendor will sell at a good price all the time. They shouldn't need a group purchase to offer a decent price. According to reports from our advertisers, just advertising on here is about equal to a group purchase since it generates so much business for them.

I'm closing this topic since my mind is made up on it. If you have a reasonable alternative, post a new topic and let us know .. it better not involve the forums though.

Jason
