Gutting the Exhaust Back Pressure Valve

Remove the down pipe from the Exhaust Back Pressure Valve outlet.

Automotive tire Tire Wheel Motor vehicle Rim


Remove the actuator arm from the ball located under the Exhaust Back Pressure Valve housing by sliding the sleeve back and pull the ball from the socket.

Remove the three 5/16" 12-point bolts from the Exhaust Back Pressure Valve housing.

Remove the Exhaust Back Pressure Valve housing from the the turbo housing.

Grind off and drive out the two rivets that hold the butterfly plate to the shaft. Remove the butterfly plate.

Pull the shaft from the housing.

Drive the shaft bushing out of the lower housing using an old socket (drive it into the housing).

Drive a 20mm freeze plug into the shaft bore. I used a socket to drive it in.

The Exhaust Back Pressure Valve housing is ready to be reinstalled. Re-attach using the three 5/16" bolts and reclamp the down pipe.

Unplug the actuator wires located on the driver's side, near the base of the turbo compressor housing. It is the only two-wire connecting plug.
