I have Firestone bags. I love 'em. Got a load, jack 'em up. Got no load, take the air out. YOu can also add a little air if you have a bunch of people/gear in the vehicle.
I had them installed but hear they aren't that hard to do.

I tow a 7,000lb trailer and the rear doesn't sag with it. The rear doesn't get unduly compressed over bumps either. Made a huge difference to ride and especially safety with towing with the X.

Feels better towing a 7,000 lb trailer with the bags than when I had a 5,000lb trailer without the bags!

I tow a 32 AT (see pics) 10,000lbs, with bags, I would never tow without them. I put mine on in 2 hours but I have done it before on many trucks. With the boat not able to have the load dist bars (due to the surge brake)there is only one choice and that is the bags. I have a 4" lift and the bags still work fine.

I'm towing about #1000-1500# less than you and on a tanden axle. Mine sits fine, but does drop a tad, but nothing to worry about.

I would imagine you've got about 500-600 # tongue weight at most so I'm sure you're sag is pretty minimal too. The one thing that make a huge difference is keeping the tires on both truck and trailer at MAX psi. Rolls smooth and straight.

Bags and shocks will do different things. Bags may change the ride slightly but will let you raise the rear back to normal. Of course that's good, if you need to get the tongue up higher. Also make sure you're trailer is level when on the Ex. If it is, you may not want to lift the rear of the Ex. with bags.

Shocks may help overall ride and control. If height really isn't the major issue, shocks may be the key to a better ride and maybe better handling.

Oh, and AT sucks, oh wait, or is that Apache that sucks? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/phoney.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif Ah hell, what do I know, I have a 600HP Searay! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

No, it is Apache that sucks....you must be an OSO fan /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif AT is Active Thunder, or Active boats out of FL. It is more or less a cig hull, almost a splash, and is a full balsa core boat, hull, deck, hull sides...everything, so it is a wave crusher. Just tuck the drives a little tab and you just split them like a knife in butter. So far mine is 490 x2 but a whipple is in order and I could see 550 a side, hope the B1s hold up /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Otherwise it will be BMax or Konrads, no #6s, way too much $$$$$ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ya I know, I was just messing with you. Yep, OSO. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif Around here the only time we get to see anything cool like an AT (besides Baja(hahahaha) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif and maybe a Donzi) is at Texoma for a poker run.

Well actually, the old Ohio Steel cat is on our local lake (god only knows why) now sporting t-turbines. Owner says 1300HP each. And this is a lake that by the time you get a cat that size aired out, you have to shut down to keep from beaching, or at least to wipe the PWC splatters off the hull. LOL /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif I posted pics of it in the CAT thread over there, looking for info on it. I knew it had to be a well known boat and that was the place to find out the history i about 3 minutes! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Here I go taking the thread OT again! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You guys are overloading your X. The hitch on the X is only rated for 500lbs tongue weight (Weight carrying). The typical tongue weight of a boat trailer is 6-8% of the trailer weight. I purchased an X thinking that it would tow my 290 PowerQuest with no problem. It does, but I have to use a weight distributing hitch. My total towed load is close to 10,000lbs, which puts my tongue weight between 600-800lbs. No problems with a WD hitch. The hitch I use is an Equalizer hitch. They work with surge brakes; however, I ended up welding up the coupler and converted my trailer to electric brakes. I like them better then surge. The X is a pulling monster, but it must be done correctly. Insurance will not cover you if you are overloaded. Just something to keep in mind when we tow our expensive toys.
