Hi - I've got a '96 PSD with 253K. I'm having issues with the HPOP reservoir draining out. If the truck sits for more than a day, when I go to start it fires right off but dies after a few seconds. It usually starts and runs fine after the second time. If it sits for more than a few days it usually takes three tries before all is good. I know that the revervoir is draining out (internally). I replaced the check valve and the reservoir cover gasket, but still have the problem. Otherwise the truck runs and drives great. No smoke, stumble or anything else.

What else could be causing my reservoir to drain out? I appreciate any help.

Did you put new o-rings on teh IPR, the check valve has nothign to do with it draining off. Otherwise you have an injector with an internal leak that si bleeding out the system

Welcome to The Diesel Stop.
We had a truck in our shop a while back with this problem: the reservior was cracked! It was a hairline fracture, barely distinguishable from the other casting marks on the aluminum.
Pull it off, clean it completely, and inspect it with a bright light.

I replaced the entire IPR and O-rings about a year ago. I replaced all injector o-rings at the same time.

If there was an injector leak I would be seeing lots of smoke, right? There isn't much smoke to speak of. The leak is internal - no oil in the valley or leaking anywhere else.

Where was the crack in the reservior cover? Internally so it could leak into the HPOP gear drive area?

I also rebuilt the HPOP (new fittings and gasket) a year ago. As long as I was tearing into the valley I did everything I could think of. At least I thought.
