Ive read through the hard start threads before and think i have an idea of my problems. This morning (44 degrees) truck wouldnt start. After work (55 degrees) still no start. Video of how it goes:

The truck is a 2002 f350 with 286k miles. I'm a new owner. ive put 2k on it so far. truck previously had new injectors, glow plugs and HP oil pump replaced (within 15k miles i believe). No codes on computer. Completly stock. On a normal cold start it has to warm up for 20-30 minutes before it can be driven (no power, wont rev etc.) ive heard of sticky injectors? Once warmed up truck runs and drives like new. Id like some advice on things to check or how to get it started. ill give any more information needed but thats all i can think of right now. Thanks for any help.

Side note: Can anyone recomend a good mechanic who knows the 7.3's in San Diego area. Thanks!

Hey Buckwheat,

I would find an alternative to letting it idle for 20-30 minutes to warm up...even just sitting in the truck and revving the engine to 1,300 RPM for a few minutes to mimick a high-idle.

I see you have newer GPs from Previous Owner but probably worth checking your GP system again including the GPR (Relay) or since you are CA maybe it has a GPM (Module). Also worth Ohming the GPs again with a multimeter. Did the previous owner give you a receipt for the GPs? Its important to stick with Motorcraft (ZD-11) and not some after-market. The Motorcraft and International GPs are made by BERU.

Plus there is no harm in plugging in your block heater for an hour or so before a cold start to speed up the process.

Like ArcticDriver said, double check your GP's system with multimeter following KL hard start threads. Plug your block heater for a couple hours and if the truck start without issue, well good sign that there is something wrong with the GP's system.

what are you using to for code? most OBD scanner won't read the powerstroke code.

I got it started last night. The engine wont rev over 900 rpms until running for about 5 minutes. I believe with the california GP module will send a code if system isn't working. I have an Ancel AD310 code reader. I read that they work on my truck before i bought it. I dont feel like the problem is in the GP system. The engine seems to mis a little when it first starts. Also ive had a code in the past of (i believe) cylinder 5 misfire.

I did just a quick search of your obd scanner and i doesn't think that this work on poverstroke truck. It might be able to retrieve some code but not all of them

Sorry I missed that, you are right, if you can't get more than 900 RPM when cold then the problem is more than the GP system but verifying your GP system works is just part of the process.

Any chance you can borrow an AE Scantool?

I think it's an UVCH problem. Maybe a loose connection or partial failure. Does it seem like the engine is running on only 4 cylinders?

Easy test is to get the engine running, go under the hood and disconnect the harness going to the valve cover at one of the heads.

If the engine stalls, you've disconnected the "good" bank of cylinders.

If the engine continues to run, you've disconnected the "bad" bank of cylinders.

It is interesting that there is no SES light?

Additionally, if you have the transmission in PARK with the parking brake set, after a few minutes the PCM should increase idle speed to a fast idle (1000 rpm or so) automatically to aid in warm up.
