ive got an 88 ford f-250 with the 7.3l IDI and a c-6 tranny i put a turbo on it. its a banks turbo system but not the sidewinder. i was wondering if anybody has ever tryed to run propane or nitros in thes motors for more power. would it hurt my truck if i tryed it myself in small doses.

I know a guy that has an 89 with the banks turbo not sure which one but he ran propane.I will ask him about the power issue and get back to you. I wouldnt think that running propane will give you more power though.

Propane WILL give you more power..in a much quicker hurry than you can imagine. Small doses is pretty iffy...when you think you have enough, you always think you can go a little farther...I saw a 12v cummins that had egg shaped pistons after trying to run down a camaro on the interstate. So the question is, when and where do you draw the line. IDK what you'd want to run for regulated pressure through the ol girl....but unless your going to do some megatime workouts...i wouldnt do it. Would you want to take a little heroin or cocaine and expect your body to last long?

im just looking for a little extra power for when its needed. i was told by a buddy that worked at ford some years ago that worked on these old IDI,s that they where all made of forged components on the top and bottom ends of these motors. is true. and if i was to run propane wouldnt it make my EGT,s hotter?.

When you start boosting or adding extra fuels as you have stated you need an exhaust pyrometer. Otherwise you are driving blink and a piston melt down will happen. About 1050 or 1100 is as hot as you should go. Aluminum melts at about 1225. How close to that do you want to get??? How accurate is your pyro??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif
