So, here's the scoop. I did the "ExGaReVa" delete a year ago. I did it just to prevent head gasket probs. I have run a Hypertech programmer off and on since then with no problems. Last fall I took it in to the dealer for some warranty work. They reflashed the ECM (didn't say why) and since then my programmer gives a U0306 code. Boost is not what it was, and it surges real bad when programmed. I have left the programmer out until last week. I re-installed it and drove it on a long trip (125 Miles). Stopped to get fuel and smelled coolant. Raised the hood and coolant was around the bottle cap and all over the left side. Level was not past the new max mark on bottle.

Removed programmer and drove all week. Got on it pretty hard several times and found no coolant coming out. Yesterday I re-installed programmer and drove around town. Did not get on it hard at all and coolant is coming out again. How can it not push out coolant in stock mode, driving the $hit out of it, but will push coolant out with the programmer in driving it casual.

Talked to my local dealer and he said the programmer will leave traces in the ECM even after I remove it. Is this right? Any suggestions will help. Is it my head gaskets? It shouldn't be that "thing" on top, its been deleted over a year.

Its got 42,000 miles now. Dealer said warranty would cover if no traces of programmer. Also he said he could look at the pistons and tell if a programmer was used. Is this right?

Thanks in advance.

The programmer may be putting too much timing in the engine, causing the coolant to flash boil and there's your puking. You may not have a head gasket problem yet. If you can get some custom tunes on an SCT programmer they can keep the timing tame and not cause the flash boil.
As far as finding traces of a programmer. Most people say if they want to look hard enough they can find some.
As for the pistons, a chip can leave a much more noticeable flower pattern on top of the piston sometimes. It can vary though.
Also - I see you're a sled operator. Me too, not lucky enough to be a Bauer sled though! Maybe someday! :icon_biggrin: Great sleds.

Thanks for the reply. If its the gaskets, i cant take a chance on warranty not covering it. Do you know if it can be done with the cab on. I have no way to pull the cab. I have heard it can be done. I will get the studs and have the heads checked also. It just sucks with just 42,000 miles.

We have had our sled for 6 years. We do regional shows all over NC and SC. we used to go to Greeneville, TN but have not been in a while. I have run a lot of sleds, but the Bauer is by far the best. Thanks for the info. Eric

Gaskets can be done with the cab on. I saw somewhere where someone posted pictures of it, you just have to strip everything in there to get room. Definitely easier with the cab off, but only if you can get it off.
You're already on the right track saying you'll get your heads checked. That gets overlooked a lot and causes a lot of trucks to have to be fixed again.
I've seen guys blow hg's with as few as 17k miles. I was one of the lucky ones that made it to 150k.
We mainly pull in TN. I've never been to one yet over your way.

eric...look at "My Photos" Mine done under warr. Is it absolutely necessary to pull front end or lift cab. you'll have to look/judge for yourself? Tec. does for obvious reasons + its figured in on h.g. repair. Good luck!
