about 3/4 way down the page. These heads are VERY HEAVY, might want to think about an engine hoist to lift it.

Are the intake manifold and valley pan off......

You will need at least 2 people or an engine lift to safely remove and install the head ...

Count how many head bolts you have out, and make sure you have the same number of bolts as you have holes in your new head gasket. There are a couple in the back of the head that won't come out due to the firewall though, so you'll have to count those as well, making sure you've loosened them and screwed them all the way out.

the valley pan is the aluminum thing under the intake manifold? that is still in there but not attached to the head. i left the exhaust manifold on but unbolted it from the y pipe. thought it would be easier that way.

i got all but one out and left it in like you said. maybe i missed one? i dont have the new head gasket yet my head has to go in to be worked on. the thing that holds the valve spring down broke off and the rod was bent on the very rear valve on the driver side #8 cyl.

also the first injector unscrewed but the bottom of the injector also unscrewed and is stuck down in there. could this be the problem? where do i attach the chains on the head to pull it with a cherry picker?

Many times quite a bit. I had a variety of little wedges I made that I could drive in between the head and block of most any diesel that would not scratch either surface. Sometimes they can give all new meaning to the word stuck. Don't get carried away with any form of brutality. I remember years ago the mechanic in the stall next to me did a complete overhaul and as he was filling it with coolant we saw coolant running out the exhaust. The head had been stuck on so tight he finally resorted to a 6' long shop prybar and he had accidently poked a hole in the head casting from the exhaust port into the water jacket.

Each head has 17 bolts holding it in place. The valley pan gasket will need to be replaced. They are a one use item with a crush fit. Northern Auto Parts has the best price on the Felpro intake valley pan gasket. Also on the head gaskets which are part number HS 9047 PT. The intake part number is MS 96038.

If you remove the top of the injector as you did... to remove the base you will be required to grind the outer threads off the top piece..... then screw the inner threads back in the stuck part..... with the use of a release agent ie PB blaster/ Mercury power tune (boat stuff) try to disolve or scrape away carbon buildup. DO NOT put any large amounts of liquid in the cylinder..... if you do... crank the engine by starter to blow it out before installing a new/rebuilt injector. A small pry bar may be required to assist in removal....
