Hey I was just curious, I have an 06 6.0L powerstroke with only a 4 inch straight piped exhaust. I was about to order an Sct programmer. Should I upgrade my intake also? and headstuds now or just wait until problems occur?

Hello, Yes I would change the intake also, if you are trying to get the exhaust out faster, you have to bring in the air faster. The stock air filter has too much restriction in it to make that happen, and you will not get much out of just the 4" exhaust. I have a 03 F-350 SD 6.0L, it has 127,000 miles on it. I have a 4" MagnaFlow exhaust turbo back, Superchip 1704, Airaid cold air intake system, I have also added some gauges, Trans. temp, Boost, and EGT gauge, if you are going to do any pulling with your truck, or you are going to chip it, and only want to add 1 gauge, that gauge should be the EGT, that truck running stock is capable of reaching EGT temp's of over 1200deg's and that will blow head gaskets and break or stretch head bolts if you keep your foot in it to long on a long pull. I pull a 39ft 5th wheel trailer that has a 12ft toy hauler in the back, this trailer weights 12,000lbs with nothing in it, once I add every thing in it ( water, gas, 4 wheelers, dive gear ) the weight goes to around 15,000lbs, and I have no problem pulling this rig as fast a I want to go, how ever I do have to watch my EGT temp., it will go over 1200deg's, I do not mind if it goes to 1200 for a little bit, but I do not let it stay there long, I make it down shift and then back out of it a bit and the EGT temp., drops right away. I have had no problems with this truck with this setup on it, and it pulls much better, and has no turbo lag. Hope this helps answer your question.

I also have a 2006 FX4 6.0 ---- thanks for the info previoulsy listed

QUESTION:
Anyone have experience on the EVANS NPG coolant ?
-Waterless + other advantages as stated

STATEMENT:
Being the 6.0 Diesel endine has all of the Head Gaskest issues / failures / head bolts stretching etc

QUESTION:
-Wouldnt running the EVANS NPG have a tremendous affect on Operating coolant Temp and in turn HELP / ASSIST in the head gasket failures / EGR / Turbo etc ?

I have 100% stock F250 ---but have added ever possible By-Pass fliud systems ( Oil, Trans, Coolant ) --- plus running synthetic fluids and aways insert a high quality diesel fuel additive

My HOPE is that by doing every UP front preventitive maint will pay for itself in a longer lasting vehicle with as few issues as possible

PLease advise of your thoghts / comments etc

Many thanks in advance

I would install the AFE intake if you are going to do it. They have about the best filtration and great flow. Any how it depends on how you are going to drive the truck I would say, as to weather or not the head studs, and how much extra $ you have. I installed the sct x3 on my truck and immediatly had to do an EGR delete to keep the truck from puking coolant. I drive it nice and I am hoping that I dont have to do the headgasket. So far so good. If you had the extra money, which I dont really, I would just go ahead and install the ARP head studs and a new gasket.

A lot of people will say to wait on studs until the gaskets go.... I am going to say differently... Get them done upfront because you may not know for a while after they are gone that they actually went.

I say that from experience... I did not go that route. I waited until I started puking. Well, I only puked 3-4 times total before mine went in for the studs and when the heads were pulled, it was obvious my gaskets had been compromised for a long time.

Stud before anything happens....No need to change the air intake, the stock air intake supplys plenty of air up to about 450 hp.
