Just wondering if anyone is running the heavy work intake system you can get from ford for the 7.3 and if you noticed any gains from it?

It is called the AIS, and many people here run it and love it.

To look at the filter the quality of the filtration seems obvious. To me anyway. Click here to download Ford's brochure.

Is it the best set up for our Truckasaurs? How is it compared to a Tymar or some other Stage-something cone set up? And I mean REALLY, not speculatively.

I'm not real fond of my AFE Stage 2 - Bad fit and finish and air leaks that let me suck in plenty of hot air. I was thinking about the S&B for my truck as it appeared to solve the whole air leak problem but then I stumbled upon this AIS. It sounds promising and looks like something I might try. Where can I buy one?

I know that if you are concerned with clean air going into your engine, then the AIS it is the best filter. I think that an important improvement with the AIS is to do the zoodad mod on the header panel in front of the intake tube.

Here's an interesting thing I discovered...After installing the AIS, I would always see the filterminder tripped. I then did the zoodad mod and it still tripped all the time. Then one day I had the grill off the truck and noticed that the rubber matting that lies in front of the header panel, was overhanging the hole I cut for the zoodad mod by about an 1/8 inch. For giggles, I trimmed the matting back to about a 1/4" larger than the header panel hole I cut. From that point on, I have never tripped the filterminder. So, I have concluded (at least on my truck) that the zoodad definitely increases cold air flow to the filter and that any impediment (I think, but don't know, it has to do with turbulence) of the air makes a bug difference within the filter box. If I didn't live in the dustbowl of Nevada, I'd probably get the foam sleeve to the wheel well for the AIS...but that would be brutal on the filter in this environment.

The powerstroke shop has the best price.
I just bought one and installed everything fits great.
If you have not ever had your stock battery cover off then you
than you dont relize the amount of crud that be sucked in your filter box.Its worth the money,

[/ QUOTE ]I put the foam sleeve into the side of the fenderwell rather than the zoodad mod. The reason for this was a post by "Tailgunner" about driving through some typical winter weather in the Upper Peninsula. His filter got wet with blowing snow through the Zoodad mod and then when he parked the truck in typical fashion, it froze into a giant blue block of ice. Doesn't flow too well that way. This may not be an issue in NV.

Any Ford dealer.

Or save a buck and order from a former sponsor of TheDieselStop =

then scroll down to the AIS.

Or if you don't want to support those who make this forum available for your free enjoyment, then click here and save another buck. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I would like to make one comment concerning this. We were also a former sponsor. I have tried for the last year and a half to get Mr Lester to accept our money as a sponsor. He responds from time time and I get him all the info and data he needs and then he disappears. If you haven't noticed, The sponsor board has went to nothing because I'm not the only one experiencing this. Please do not list me as a non supporter as I have alot of respect for the site and its users and would love to be listed as such.

Thanks, Bob

I'm a little unclear as to where to perform the mod. Anyone have any pictures? I've looked at the filter setup itself and I guess I'm just not seeing what you're talking about.

Additionally, is the AIS designed more for cold-air intake and great filtering or is it meant only to be a more effective filter assembly?

I have a friend that put one of those Airaid intakes on his 6.0. He's got the Banks six-gun so it monitors EGT, oil temp, trans temp, water temp, etc and it defuels when ever any of those get too high.

He pulled the same grade on two different trips on his way to Oregon with his 35 foot travel trailer - once with the stock air box and once with the Airaid. It was hotter outside when he took the trip with the stock air box than it was when he made the trip with the Airaid.

All of his temperatures went up over the course of the trip and caused the programmer to defuel several times. Because of defueling he wasn't able to maintain the speeds that he was able to maintain on the trip prior.

So for me, pulling air from under the hood and not from outside is no good and it's what my AFE has a tendency to do. It's why I started looking and discovered the AIS. I too am having trouble with EGTs (even with 4" exhaust, a new down pipe, etc) and I suspect it's mostly due to hot air getting past the poor fit and finish of the AFE.

Sorry, Bob. My bad. I edited my post.

I haven't been involved with management of the website for a coupla years now, but it appears Jason is dropping the ball when it comes to taking care of the sponsors. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

What I enjoy most about my AIS is about 45K plus miles of closed hood time!

I did notice a slight seat of the pants difference in power when I had the AIS and Zoodad done. Had both mods several months now and my highway and towing milage has increased by a solid .5 MPG, despite the new low sulfur fuel out.

Really like the peace of mind of having perhaps the best filtering system on the planet for our trucks, IMO.

I hate the noise of the AFE 2 on my F350, & I'd like to replace it with an AIS. I just don't want to find out I lost airflow, does the AIS restrict airflow more than the AFE 2? Or do they flow comparably? I do like the cleanability of the AFE 2 over buying a $75 filter on the AIS.
