I have a 2002 F250 7.3. I was driving down the road yesterday pulling a load. It started hesitating like it was cutting off, then come back and act normal. I pulled off on an exit ramp and when I took my foot off the pedal the engine cut off. It would start right back up again then cut off after 30 sec to 1 min if I was not reving it a little. It is not throwing any codes. (truck has 159,000 miles)

Do you guys think it is the CPS?

Thanks for the help

If it's not throwing a code, then the CPS is often the first thing to check. Make sure when you pick one up, that you get the grey CPS with the part number ending in "B". This is the revised CPS from Ford, and cost only ~$25 at the dealership, compared to around $200 for the original.

Check your fuel filter. I don't think it's your CPS, I know they sometimes act differently when they fail on different trucks, but both times (2 different trucks) mine failed, they left codes. I think you have a fuel delivery issue.

I replaced the fuel filter last night and it's still acting the same.

Golly, that CPS acts different from truck to truck, I had a 97 F350, the CPS would only go out when I was at highway speeds then took an exit, bam, it would shut off. My 01 stumbled while driving and shut off at a stoplight but left a code that my edge evolution read. My buddy's 02 would start and shut off whenever he gave it a little throttle but start right back up. I'm sure others have experienced other types of frustrating issues with the CPS, but I'll bet nobody has been taken for an $1,800.00 bill for a bad CPS /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif. When it was happening to my 97 (5 years ago) I made the mistake of not taking it to ford because they were always more expensive in the past, well, a week on a chassis dyno and about 15 different parts changed out and voilla (sp?). I was told I got a break on the bill too. I wish I knew then what I know now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif
