OK I put in a new glow plug relay. Start up my truck but now the battery light is on. Batteries are barely a year old and hot. Alternator checks out good. :icon_mad: Now what? I looked at connections and they're all good. I can't believe the alternator checked out good! It's original with 240,000 miles on it! I just bought a boat and was getting ole mean green ready to pull. A little tune up you know. Change fluids and filters. She was a little hard to start last cold snap so why not go ahead and do the relay too. Figures, Do a little good and something else breaks!:jester:

If the battery light is on, then the alt is the likely culprit. Just did mine- I was headed home from a trade show, and the bat light came on. Hooked up the scantoo, and the charging voltage was at 12.1v.....then 12.0 a few mintues later. Drove the 70 miles to a parts house, replaced the alt, and all is good.

Hey TX...

There is a single wire plug on top the alternator sometimes this wire connection (blade type) will become loose/dirty. What I did was unplug clean the blade (in alternator) as best you can apply a small amount of dialectric grease and I also pinched the female connector so as to maintain a snug fit to blade...

If you just changed the relay and then had the issue, I would defitnately check the connections as suggested. You may have leaned on it.

Or got the wrong relay. if you bought one that grounds via the base the gp's never shut off.

What is the volt meter showing?

I ordered the Stancor relay that everyone on this site recommended. Just for fun I put the original (yes the original relay was still on it) and the battery light is still on. Triple checked connections and cleaned where the relay bolts to the bracket. Had the alternator tested AGAIN at Autozoners instead of Oreilly's. It shows good. I don't drive this truck much anymore. It stays permanently hooked to my boat unless I run to the hardware store. I need ole Mean Green so I can go fishing again. I'll be in withdrawals within a week if I can't go fishing. Ever seen what happens when you take the drugs away from the addict? We're talking serious here. I really need this truck for my days off. Two more weeks until I'm off again. Then you'll be reading about some guy freaking out in the paper.

as mentioned above the single wire on mine went bad from leaning on it, if u have a helper wiggle that wire around and u stay in the cab the light will go on and off if its the wire it may look okay and feel snug but the wire could be off inside the connecotor, i couldnt find just that wire at the auto store but there is a place here i can order u one if its bad think it costs about 6 bucks save u from a whole harness.

more then likely the the wire that bolts to the altenator is loose or the bolt has broken off inside i had this happen on my truck and i ended up trying to tight it and it broke the stud off the rest of the way and had to end up buying a new altenator

Everone forgets...but how bout all your negative(ground) connections. The chassis ground, the engine, and anywhere else you can trace your negative battery cables.

My Battery light came on the other after I started it up first thing in the morning...Alternator (less than 4 months old bought NEW) Batteries (less than 3 months old bought new Motorcrafts)...Had someone wiggle the little single wire on top of the Alterator and that was the culprit. I still need to go out there and mess with it to get it on there good.
