I tested the cord and I'm getting power to the element. What should the element ohm out at between the 2 poles?
Where would the best place to get a replacement be? I live in Alaska and this is the only way I can get my truck to start at the moment.
I have a 97 7.3L.
Thanks alot folks... this site is a life saver!

Kindest Regards,

Napa Auto Parts has the replacement for you. Call or go on line and you can order it. Ford wants $75.00 for the element and $120.00 for the plug (!? What the hell ford!?). I spent $56.00 for the same part at Napa! Good luck!

Unplug the block heater cord. Then take a multimeter set on continuity and upt one probe on each pin of the block heater. If you do not hear a tone then the element has an open in the circuit and needs to be replaced. You will have to drain your coolant system in order to change the block heater. Have a drain pan ready for when you unscrew the block heater as all of the coolant on that side of the engine is going to come out.

Being in Alaska you probably already know this, but.....
Place an incandesant drop light under the hood until you get it fixed. The heat from the bulb often keeps things warm enough to start.

Of course BE CAREFUL AS TO WHERE IT LAYS. No need to start a fire.
