I'm getting ready to buy a 2004 champion 25 TT. It has 17" hitch height and 430 pounds of tongue wieght.

So my question are

1. What kind of harness plug do I need for my truck and how do I find out the pinout to work with the champion?

2. How do I get my hitch height down to 17" and what size ball will I need.

Not worried about brakes for tow home but want to have it set level, and taillites working.

All suggestion appreciated.

Most RV's have 7 conductors that are flat or spade and not a round pin. There are tons of places to find the pin out but here is a link to Marks RV wiring info as one source.

More then likely you will need a 2-5/16" ball but I would call the dealer/person your buying from to confirm.

As for the hitch height - You will need to shop around for the proper ball mount depending on rise or drop needed and wether or not your going to use weight distribution. You might want to surf through www.reeseprod.com or www.draw-tite.com to get an idea on which way to go.

Cking measure your hitch on the truck bottom of the reciver tube. minus 17 inches for the trailer tounge, and that is to the bottom of the trailer tounge right, and that will give you the drop or raise you need for the truck. It will give you a good start anyway.wiring truck should already have wire just need to find the brake controller plug and the wires in the back if it dont have plug.

I *believe* that hitch height is generally expressed as a "top of ball" measurement. You'll want to set your hitch up a little high, as it will settle with the tongue weight. Most 2-5/16 trailers are in the 19-22" range, but the TT might be a little lighter than most of the cargos I pull.

No matter what your other questions are, you did not ask the most important: "what weight distributing hitch should I get." Do NOT tow this trailer over 10 - 15 miles w/out a weight distribution hitch. There are several good ones out there, and you need one.

Now while on the road with a full loaded trailer like he is buying a WD is a good idea let's not call out the Marines yet on the maiden empty tow back to his home base. The HD hitches on the SDs are rated at 500 tongue weight and 5,000 trailer weight which he will be close to based on his initial post. As long as he is not doing his initial pull hundreds of miles I think he will be O.K. However, eventually I do agree looking at a good WD and integral sway control like the Reese would be a good standard setup for this trailer.

Yes, The hitch weight listed in 430 lbs. Which is only a reference in my opinion. I don't want to decide on the bars until I get it loaded. I also need a drop head. Looked on the hitch sites and everything looks like it will be easy to obtain. Found a same model, year close by will take a look to see what plug I need to wire in. Also won't have breaks for maiden voyage either. Been reading reviews of the different controllers. I'll get sway bar too.

I know truck won't have a problem, last year I put a 900 pound safe on rear of bed and it just made the truck site level.

Keep the ideas coming

Thanks

2,450 pounds of salt on a pallet right to the tailgate is what it takes to make mine sit level! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif
