My wifes 05 F250 will not turn to the left. The problem just started out of no where. The wheels turn easy to the right as far as they will turn but when I want to turn left the wheel will only go a couple of inches past center and the tires only move barely enough to notice visually. I am stumped can anyone help me out with where to start. Thanks

I had that happen one time in one of my older trucks. Lost the u-joint in the outer shaft (driver's side) and was binding up, shaft slid out of the pumpkin causing the bind. Could go right but the leftie no work. I slid the shaft back into the pumpkin and tied it off with bailing wire just to get home.

Figure out a route with only right hand turns.

I broke a tooth off the pinion gear in my CJ-7 gearbox (while out on the trail, of course) and couldn't turn left.

Does it dead-stop when trying to go left, like you are against the bump-stop? Or does the pump whine like its trying to turn but doesn't have enough power to go any more?

Jack, jack stands, lift the front end, start the truck and try turning it with the front wheels in the air -- obviously check for any obstructions, particularly on the inside of the driver's side knuckle. Have someone else turn it while you watch the pitman arm to see if it just stops at some point, or if it tries to continue turning but you get binding elsewhere in the tie rod/dragling area.

The other thing to look at is did your Steering stabilizer hop a indent and then you will not get to turn one way... remove the Ubolt and see if it turns....

Hey guys thanks so much for all of your help so far! Sorry to not be on in a few days but I have been too busy to get on the computer. Any way I did take off the stabilizer and I tried to take the load off the tires and turn the wheel but no dice. I talked to my uncle who has been working on cars since he was old enough to turn a wrench, he said that it sounds like the gear box is bad. I dont know but I guess I will take the linkage loose at the pitman arm and see what happens. Does anyone know what I need tools wise to remove the drag link from the pitman arm?

A tie rod puller which you can get most places for like $15.

you just need a 21mm wrench. a pair of pliers and a hammer. you take the cotter pin out. then you loosen the nut with the 21mm wrench. dont take it all the way off so the tierod doesnt fall when removed. then take the hammer and give the side of the pitman arm, beside where it the tierod goes through and give it a few good whacks. dont hit down on the tierod. just hit the side of the pitman arm. if you use a tierod puller, the one that looks like a tuning fork, it will tear up the tierod boot. i have replaced many a pitman arm and done it this way every time. thats all the local alignment shops use to do it.

I had the same thing happen on an earlier Super Duty, it ended up being the GEar Box. this is the second or third Ford Super Duty i have heard of this happening. Seems odd on an 05, but anything can happen

I see it is a 2005. Is it out of warranty?
