I fear that it finally is going. Trans seems to be slipping. 88,700 miles on the o.d. and I am the original owner. I have a trans temp gauge in it and the only time it ever gets off 140 is when I tow a 11,000 pound boat. Even then it has only reached 170. Yesterday just running around town I felt it slipping. Pedal was pushed down and it did not move like it should. I was not towing anything. I looked at the trans gauge and it was up to 170. Never went past that and went down to 160 when I was going slower. Again my gauge never reads over 140 under these conditions. (I know 170 is not overheated) Today it is worse. It is doing it all the time mostly in 2nd gear. Could I be so lucky to just need a torque converter or is it probably the trans? Is there a way to diagnose the problem with out tearing into it? I do not have a trans shop I trust but if I could find one I would pay them to diagnose the problem. I have a hoist in my shop and want to do the replacement myself if it needs it. Any help would be appreciated. Also If the trans is fried I plan on putting a better one in. Dont know if I should open this can of worms but any good reasons why I should pick one over the other. I am looking at the BTS and the MONSTER BOX in paticular. I dont really have the money for either but I refuse to put another stock one in that I am just going to fry again. I know both make good trans so I am looking for things like does either come with a torque converter and if so which one has a better converter? warrantys, service ect.

Both the BTS and the Monster Box are good, as is the Suncoast, what I have. Regardless of which of the three you wind up with, it will be sooooo much better than stock it won't even be close. All three come with an upgraded TC. Just make sure you get an additional tranny cooler and guages.

What made you chose the suncoast?

Sounds like you might have hased your intermediate clutches and steels if it feels like its slipping in second, thats my guess, its not an easy fix, I have to do it one of these days when I have extra time,(long story)

Is it cost effective to fix just those parts?

I didn't want to go to Arkansas and get a BTS and the Monsterbox hadn't been on the market yet. Also, Suncoast has a great reputation and super warranty, plus they have dealers all over the country. I've got nearly 80k on mine towing and racing without a hint of a problem Even here in Phoenix at 115 ambient, my temps stay below 180. Shifts like a dream. Couldn't ask for a better tranny in my estimation.

Been calling around today and the monster box is alot cheaper than the suncoast and bts once you factor in shipping and stuff. Anybody have any reason not to get the monsterbox? I know they all are good trannys.
