Hi guys. I have a 95 PSD 5sp 4.10 gears w/ 133000 and my MPG was fine, but then the Cat got clogged and the MPG was bad (i mean 1/4 tank in 2 days bad), so I checked for a leak in the tanks and didnt find any. Then I realized check the cat. It was clogged. So I replaced it with the Ford Cat Delete Pipe. I also changed all the fluids. (oil, coolant, etc...) The mileage got better but it still is not what I had before. Everything is stock on the truck (other than Ford's cat delete pipe). Although I did disconnect the door chime but I dont think it has anything to do with the MPG. What else could be ruining my gas mileage. Should I check for a leak somewhere else? I was actually thinking my injectors are going bad, could that be it? or mabe just the seals. Give me a list of things I should check. Thanks guys. What should I be getting MPG wise (I shift at 1500rpm) Any ideas on whats wrong is useful nomatter how minute of a thing.

Just to give us a hint, what kind of bad milage? You could figure that I am getting fantastic milage on mine since I filled up 2 weeks ago and have only used about 4 gallons of fuel. I usually get around 18 in the summer here at 6500 feet, and have see as good as 22 on the freeway at 55.

I get about 14 miles to the gallon, sometimes a little more. Mostly back roads/highway driving. Once in awhile I get a little froggy at the stop light and gun it. I loooooove to hear that turbo whine up.

Not sure if 14 is good for a clean 1997 with 190,000 on it.... cetainly does not smoke a bit.

Wish I could help ya...

Check your fuel filter also try some fuel additive and a different fuel station you may got ahold of some bad fuel, also check your oil level make sure the injector o-rings are not going bad.

I chased around a problem , and one of the symptoms was crappy gas mileage . I changed the map sensor , and I gotta tell you , it was the best 155 bucks I ever spent . Funny thing though , and this may be normal , but it took about 50-75 miles to really start to run better , I did notice a diffrence in power right away , but it took a few miles to really start to run nice . Iwent from around 8 to 16 mpg ! My truck has 120k on it , and Im sure once I get the o-rings done the mileage will get better . One other thing that I did find , was the fuel by pass return screen was really dirty , I cleaned that befor I changed the sensor ( with no affect on power or mileage) but as dirty as it was , Im sure it helped some how . Any how , I hope this may help you , and if you go out an buy a sensor and it does not help , Im sorry , at least you will have a spare . By the way , I had no codes .

These things seem to lose a little low-end when you open the exhaust up without changing anything else, I don't really know why. Mine smokes like crazy when I try to shift at that low of an RPM - could you be lugging it too much? I try keeping my cruising RPM more like about 1700-1900, and shift closer to 2-2200 at lower speeds. You might be better off, just 'cause the engine's turning over slower doesn't mean you're necessarily using less fuel. BTW, I get pretty close to 20 mixed driving, with 3.55's.

Also, the guage on my rear tank moves WAY faster than the guage on my front - don't trust 'em. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's attached to the heater / ac box on the passenger side of the firewall, a hose from the passenger side intake manifold goes to it.... that reminds me, I wonder if the hose could be cracked / leaking causing a bad signal to the map....

i checked the tailpipe and its really sooty lots of black, and on startup lots of smoke. I think it has to be injector related. Im thinking either the seals are going bad o the injectors, or the injectors are bleeding into the cylinders. Im going to get the injectors checked to see if they are not closing completely, and get them serviced.

If i need new ones where is the best price for stock or slightly better than stock injectors. I dont wanna put a new clutch in so stock or like Bean's tranny savers. along those lines. Who has cheap rebuilt use and new injectors?

Also how large is the main tank and aux tank on a 1995 PSD f250 Reg cab? ball park if you have too.

Im also going to check the trouble codes and see if anything is not working right. Ill also check the MAP sensor. Im gonna change the fuel filter too

You might want to check your ICP also.

If you clogged the cat, you probably clogged other things in your fuel system. First thing to check is the FPR screen. There is an article on checking it in the tips section. If it's clogged your "gas" mileage will fall off. I can also cause the startup issues you noticed. Common cause of FPR screen cloggage is injector O-ring failure. Get them checked.

You should also check the smaller filter bowl on the side of the main filter bowl. There's a screen in there that sometimes gets gunked up, although that's not something I've seen too many posts about.

Your tanks are a little under twenty gallons. The front is a little bigger than the rear. I think they're something like 19.5 and 19.0 gallons each.

I get about 18.5 mpg when I stay out of the throttle. I got over twenty back when the limit was 55. Mine is a slushbox x-cab, so you should do at least that well.

you probably have a fuel leak somewhere. Check the weep hole on the fuel pump and the little hoses on the filter canister. Unless it smokes really bad I couldnt imagine 5mpg. With no leak. When my fuelpump went out it was leaking fuel into the crank case and I was getting about 7 mpg. Thats pretty bad!
