I know that this subject has been beat to death, but i cant find any info in a search that is helpful. i have a few questions before i rebuild my tranny.i already have the sonnax/tricumulater valve to install.

1. Any specific upgrades i need to do other that use all the heavy duty parts that i can???

2. is a torque converter a good upgrade

3. am i going to notice a difference in milage and acceleration from the converter??

4. what is the best converter for the money, i have looked at the banks and thats about it.

5. is the banks tran command a good upgrade??

Thanks for any help guys!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Take it to Arkansas to BTS. For $4,000 you will have a tranny that will last until your truck rots out from under it. Ford is going to charge you around $3,500 to rebuild...so why go with an inferior tranny?

I,ve had a great experience with my Suncoast rebuilt tranny and the Triple Loc Torque converter. Milage will improve slightly due to quicker lockup at a lower rpm and performance is great. No slips just firm solid shifts. They include a huge cooler with the tranny. I would also put on a spin on filter kit from Dieselsite.com Suncoast sells the heavy duty rebuild kits as well from ther website. suncoast.com The transcommand won't be needed with the rebuild from Suncoast. Give them a call they probably have a tranny in stock.

ok, the local shop here is rebuilding it(with a 3year warrenty). they have built transmission for pulling trucks and have built one that has lasted behind my 1000hp big block chevrolet. They are good and i trust them. my main questions are about the converter. i priced a banks this morning at around 1000 dollars.is it worth it or is there a more inexpensive one out there that is just as good??

From what I've heard, the banks would be the last choice. I also heard that the have withdrawn their converter from sale a while ago because of problems with them. You have three choices for premium converters, Precision Industries (AKA BTS) Suncoast and ATS. For a cheaper option you can get a 5R110 converter and weld a billet cover on it.

Diesel Innovations has a beefy dodge design unit that has been adapted to the 4r100. I've seen the guts of both the dodge and ford converters and as far as I'm concerned, the dodge is a bunch sturdier with lots more clutch surface.
