I was tooling along about 40mph in 4th and pushed a little on the go peddle and nothing. Dropped her into 3rd, revs came up, gave a little gas to shift back into 4th, nothing. Motor is running, no drive. Pulled over to the side, truck died. Waited, started up again. Got on the freeway, heard a click, lost gears, check engine light came on, motor died. Coasted to the side with no steering or brakes. Waited a few minutes, started up, drove a few miles same thing all over again. This time, would not start again. Fuel gauge at 1/4. Opened and drained the fuel bowl. Cycled the fuel pump and drained the fuel bowl to verify I had fuel and it was getting to the engine. Engine turns , but just won't fire. Very sadly had to put it on a flat bed and now sits at the dealer waiting for them to call in the AM. Any ideas??????????

It does sound like a Cam Position sensor.

Poke here and here. Read up on it.

Poke here for the cheapest CPS's I have found.

If you need to get one locally, try and find an International dealer close or NAPA. The dealer price is ridiculous.

Hope this helps,

Tom

Absolutely, mine just happened to be a warranty item. If that is the problem, do it yourself. Save some money for the fuel tank!

Mine did about the same thing driving down the road. The longer I waited to try to run it, the longer it would run before dying. Ford dealer told me the camshaft position sensor was loose. It was under warranty--repaired and been fine ever since.

It was the CPS. Ford fixed it under the engine warranty. $100 dedutible. Pick it up in the AM. Thanks for the input!
