I bought a Banks six gun, used. All wires were there and everything hooked up fine and it powered up. It came with the speed loader, but not the thermocoupler or pyrometer therefore I'm not hooking that up. But the Banks system is showing me error code for the thermocoupler. I did the learning sequence for the speedloader and the lights blinked as if it understood, but it still shows the error and therefore not working. Has anyone experienced this prob before. Thanks in advance for the help. By the way, I'm new here and love the site.

don't think you can run any of the newer banks products without having the thermocouple hooked up.......has to do with the egt limiting as well as the cold engine pretection made into the module, without seeing a certain value from the egt probe it won't fuel at all if memory serves me right??? If you run the speed loader you need the thermocouple but if you dont use the speed loader just connect the two wires that go to the thermocouple together.

I called Banks once to ask the techs some questions about their products before making a purchase. I got an answering machine telling me to leave my name, number and brief reason for my call.....they never called back. I decided to limit my banks purchases to exhaust and wastegate. I am not impressed with Banks products or service. My Monster exhaust came with heavy sharp burrs on all the pipes, some of the pipes had been deformed at the ends making install a royal p.i.t.a.

Powerstrokecrzy,

What year and model do you have? I have a 2003 model and if you have the speedloader hooked up you must have the thermocouple installed or the unit will flash green and no power will be added. I had the same problem you had until I added the thermocouple. I installed the six gun and connected the thermocouple wires together until I was able to get the thermocouple. If the system is working properly it will be a steady green light. Did they give you a manual with all the diagnostic codes?

I hooked the two thermocoupler wires together without the speedloader and it didnt throw any codes, but i still couldn't feel any power gains. Why is this or am I just not noticing it. I have the manual with the codes in it but no codes for the spratic green light. I know it will flash until it reaches operating temp. but the flash was random. Should it work like this or do I still need the thermocoupler even though i'm not running the speed loader.

If the six gun was orginally installed with the probe then it MUST be installed in order to operate correctly. Simply hooking the wires together or just attaching the probe won't work either because the minimum exhaust temp hasn't been reached yet (400 degrees). Part of the six guns saftey system is for cold engine protection. It will require a minimun of 120 degrees of coolant temp and 400 degrees of exhaust temp. Under those limits and the unit won't activate. The tuner also needs to learn what kind of transmission you have. If it's gone from an automatic to a manual truck then it needs to be driven so the tuner can learn that the automatic trans isn't there anymore. You can see the instruction manual here: http://assets.bankspower.com/manuals/279/96808-Ford_pda-v7-web.pdf

THANKS BANKSPOWER. An assured anwser that I was looking for. I'm gonna pick up a thermocoupler and see what happens. I was figuring something along those lines though. Again THANKS. By the way where might I easily find a thermocoupler. Local parts store, ebay, or whats the best.
