Hi All,
I have an 87 F250 6.9 with about 150k miles on her. I should mention I have been burning biodiesel in her for about 4 years with no troubles.
I will start from the beginning.... :read:
Last year my wife was driving it when it blew the rad.... She subsequently drove it until she couldn't hold it on the road anymore.... :nono:
I put a new rad in it and she started right up and ran fine the last couple of times I used it before parking it for the winter.
This spring I had to take it for a run into town so I jumped into it without checking the fluids like I know I should have after sitting all winter. It seems I had a leak in a rad hose on the new rad and all the antifreeze had leaked out over the winter, once I realized it was overheating I pulled over and found the problem and then filled it with water to get me home. On the way home it would stall anytime I came to a stop but would start right up again. It also had a big lag between hitting the pedal and actual acceleration. Then the truck started to shake and rumble, to the point the steering wheel was shaking back and forth :icon_mad:. I got home and noticed that a rubber hose I had used to connect the input of the new lift pump I installed about 5 years ago had turned spongy from the biodiesel and I figure it was likely collapsing causing the stalling? Anyways, I changed it and it doesn't stall anymore but once it gets hot it starts shaking again, like its misfiring or something. The hesitation is also still there, from a stop hit the pedal and it takes at least 3 seconds before it picks up... Its strange because the tone of the engine doesn't really seem to change like you think it would if it was misfiring...
The fuel filter has less than 2 tanks of fuel through it. My next steps are to search for anymore spongy hoses though from a brief look today the rest appear fine, then check the water separator for any issues, then possibly look at getting the IP rebuilt...
Any insight would be greatly appreciated (if you can gain any insight from my long winded story:icon_wink
!
Cheers,
Jon
