Travelling back from FLA last week and stopped after 3.5 hours off of I75 for about 20 minutes. Attempted to restart truck and all it did was crank. No smoke, no konk. Just crank. Attempted several intervals of start. After about 45 minutes waiting around, the truck started right up.

I took it to a dealer in the area and after describing the symptoms, the diesel tech said he had an inkling of it being the High Pressure Oil System which requires 500 psi in order for the truck to start. He hooked it up to his scan tool and in fact that is what it was.

He shut off the truck. Started it again. Rev'd it for 3 minutes at 3k rpm and then shut it off. Still started right up afterward. He spoke about it being a problem potentially within the high pressure oil system and recommended that I have it looked at when I got home. It's still under warranty as it is under five years / 100k.

Anybody else have this problem with it just not starting with no other symptoms? It runs fine before and after this one incident.

Thanks,

Len

This is a common occurrence for early 05's. They went with a quick disconnect connector for the early 05's and had so much trouble they added a brace in late 05. You likely have the bad connector. I would have it taken care of as soon as you can, this way you can schedule it for when you can loose the truck for a couple of days rather then just being stranded on the side of the road. It will eventually just not start. You can do a search and you will find many posts the same as yours.

What sucks is the dealer won't do the "fix" until there's a failure unless you want to pay out of pocket. Well what sucks is it will fail at the most inoportune time like a vacation with your falimy etc...

You could do like I did and order the new revised connector (better than the STC brace) and put it in your self. The connector kit w/ gaskets is only 50 bucks. The install is a bit more involved but if you have basic mechanical skills, you won't have too much trouble.

they will too fix it, if it has a problem they fix it, and the dealer will put the soild one in not the one with the brace, theyve been doing since international started using them.
could also be in the stand pipe or oil rail.

Yes but what he is saying is that Ford KNOWS they're going to fail, but instead of fixing it first, they wait until it fails. And it may not be a good time to fail when it fails. Mine failed on I-40 pulling the 5er on the way to an out of state deer/Elk hunt. I missed the deer hunt, and the scouting time for the Elk hunt because I coasted to a stop with 0 psi ICP. The tech in AR hadn't seen this problem yet so he called the Hot line. Hot line told him what it was, and that they WILL fail. Not a matter of IF, just a matter of TIME! I was SOOOO p!55ed! I paid good money for a truck, and they just let me coast to a stop on the highway, knowing it was going to happen! And it cost me 250.00 to have the 5er towed to the local Wally World lot.
Now I have the half arse fix they came out with first, instead of the proper fix. Been trying to figure a way to simulate a failure so I can get them to fix it correctly.
