Will the home made tymar with the napa filter flow better than a drop in K&N with the stock box? I would think that it would, but wondering what peoples experience is with it. Would that lower EGT's or do anything with mileage?

Just wondering what people think. Great mod for 60 bucks! Going to do the Zoodad mod tomorrow.

I built my open air ("tymar") with a Baldwin filter and it flows more air than the K&N I had in the factory air box. I don't think it lowered my EGT's much if any, and it is louder, so you can hear the turbo more (the part I like best!).

Thanks for the quick reply. Were you able to measure this or are you just going by the turbo sound? not a big deal. I am just wanting to hear if it is a good mod or should I hold out and get a different "expensive" setup. Sure like saving money! Anybody else out there with .02?

The K&N does not get rave reviews around here...some think they are fine,,,some more,,,just dont trust them.... I had one,,dumped it for the tymar. I think my SOTP dyno feels a bit of a difference....JMHO /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

Same here. I dropped the K&N for a Tymar. Both will do better than a stock filter box. The K&N doesn't get great reviews due to several test results on filtering ability.

Thanks for all the suggestions fellas! Santa said I could order gauges today so I am going to do that and probably do the homemade tymar in the next week or so. I have heard the same stuff about the K&N, but my blackstone reports have said that my filtration is great on the oil and air. I am religious about checking the seal, so it has been ok. But I will take the plunge and do the mod. I have seen people with a "bag" over thier afe to protect the filter element. Is there anything people have used over thier NAPA filter? Wondering if panty hose or something would work? Maybe I don't need anything?

Thanks for the replys guys!

put the tymar in.

then see if you have room for a bag. the bags will restrict air flow too.

for 60 bucks or whatever it is, it is an EASY mod. after 30k miles, spend anohter 30 bucks for another filter.
