My NO DASH WAIT LIGHT won't come on and the ignition wire gets hot enough to ignite. I replaced the glow plug relay hoping that was the problem. It didn't help. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where to look for the problem? I don't know that much about diesels. I've looked around for a possible short, but can't find one. Can anyone give me some suggestions on what might be my problem?

You most likely have a frayed wire or a bad connection. Either one will act as a bottle-neck for electrical current. This "high resistance" part of the circuit will produce a lot of heat and the heat will travel wherever the copper wants to take it. You need to find the source of the problem before you start a fire. Remember...the fuse may not blow because the current may not be above it's limit. However, the wires can still get hot because of the higher resistance point.

I found a burnt wire under the dashboard and repaired it. The wait to start light still will not come on. Could the hot wire have damaged the glow plugs? I'd appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks for your response.
