I have a 2003 f-250, 6.0 powerstroke, and just installed an Edge juice. I also need to change my air intake, so my question is...would I be better off with a cold air intake, OR just a regular cotton air filter stubbed under the hood? I've heard that the cold air intake is actually restrictive, so it is best to do away with all the housing. Any suggestions?

IMHO, your better off staying with the OEM intake, as your not going to see any needed improved air flow and will only lose on filtration. Spend your money on exhaust to help lower EGTs.

I agree with DRJ48; you can do the Zoodad mod for cold air with the factory intake and it doesn't get any better than the blue-media Donaldson air filter for stock to moderately tuned trucks. Spend the money on a turbo back exhaust - ESPECIALLY on an 03 that has a non-mandrel bent downpipe (crimped and crunched).

I agreed I had a K&N Ditched it for the stock filter, Way better filtration and you don't get oil all over your Mass Air sensor. All the K&N did was make it noisier and let fine sand in the intake without a pre-filter.

Just a heads up I floated & warped my heads with an Edge Tuner, It required some major $$ to fix, Tuner is way too agrresive for stock head bolts. Get an SCT Tuner that is tuned for your truck.

I put a Green air filter in my stock air box. This is a dry lifetime filter and it only cost me about $115. I also picked up a little bit of power and close to 1 mpg and makes the turbo sing a little louder.

Thanks all, I have already opened up the exhaust, but it sounds like I should also change out the down pipe? I dont really plan on driving it a whole lot on anything other than mileage or towing...at least not until the new wears off. I sure dont want to cause any damage. I plan on keeping this truck for a while.

DONT buy into the HYPE of aftermarket intakes.Unless you are building a race tk or intend on Modifieing it highly,Leave the STOCK airbox and intake on.It is specifally designed for the engine and will Flow more than enough Air even for a mildly programmed tk.You want more turbo noise? yep a open element filter will give ya that and MAYBE a slight bit of faster spool. But not worth the Money nor a risk of warranty troubles. And None of them will filter as good as the stock system.Donaldson designed this system for Ford and they have been in the Buisness MANY years more than your average aftermarket Intake filter designer Including K&N.Take it for what its worth but I wouldnt waste my money.Plus I know Its a Mod Ford really frowns on if a rep is called in on a warranty repair to your tk and you have one on.

I recommend changing the downpipe if the factory one is still in there. That will help keep your EGTs down, especially when towing. It will be a PITA if you do it yourself but the truck will thank you!
