My tuner isn't shifting when it's supposed to, so I'm wondering if my trans isn't stock afterall...

I bought the truck in 2007 with 114,000 miles on it.

I'm in NY.
This truck is originally from California.

After purchasing, I found a sticker on the door jamb saying the truck was a "lemon law buy back". After I found the sticker, I told the dealer that they sold me a lemon without telling me about it. Violation of state law. Well the state made a call to the dealership, and the dealer fixed a bunch of things on the truck for free if I agreed rescind my complaint to the state.

I'm wondering if the original owner went through a couple of 4R100s and had the California dealership buy it back as a lemon. Then maybe somebody put a 4R100HD in it.

Would that account for the discrepancy in shift speeds?

Is there any way to find out if I have a standard 4r100 vs HD?

No, it would not. The 4R100HD shifts when the computer tells it to shift, exactly like the stock 4R100.

There may or may not be a tag on the driver's side of the trans that identifies it. If that doesn't do it, you'll need to take the trans out, tear it down, and have someone that is an expert on the 4R100HD look at the parts to see if it is or is not an HD.

The Ford part number for the UPDATED " 4R100 HD" is :

6U2Z7V000LRM...

There usually is a paper tag attached to it on the side if its a replacement

The "regular" UPDATED '4R100' Part number is;

1C3Z7V000FRM...[old number is F81Z7V000LBRM]

Return the truck to stock and see if it still does it, if not its tuning issue

It likes to pull a 44' 3" 2016 XLR Thunderbolt 420AMP Toy Hauler
The above may have caused the problem.

What is the gross weight of the trailer loaded? Keystone say's it's 15,764 net.

What gear do you pull it in?

Explain the shifting problem.

Weight is close to empty. I don't haul any toys, just wanted the 2nd bedroom.

I pull in OD unless there is a hill coming up.

Explain the shifting problem.
Truck isn't shifting into OD as soon as it should.
RPMS go high, and then it shifts into OD with a bang and some turbo farting.

Hope you have a Trans temp gauge and a large Aux trans cooler.

I pulled an American Star 34ft, net weight of 12,700, loaded weight of 13,500, with just the OEM 4R100. IIRC never shifted into OD until 55 or 60 MPH. Mostly only pulled 3rd.

I have gauges, and I'm shopping for 3/8 to 1/2 barbed fitting for the 6.0 cooler swap as I type!

The oem single disk torque converter definitely leaves something to be desired.

Do you have a modified valve body or something to help it shift quicker?

I can't stand how slow and drawn out the stock shifts are.

Only mod that I know of is my F5 DP-Tuner chip.
