i have a 85 f350 6.9l idi. i was wondering if anyone could explain how to wire a push botton for the glow plugs? and what volt and brand gp i should replace the ac delco ones i bought with?

Motocraft/Beru ZD9 or Wellman/DieselRX PA302 IIRC. ZD9 is preferred.

One member is using AC60G glow plugs with a button. The AC60G plugs are constant duty so you can run them indefinitely without harming them. Personally I would go with those if I were going to use a manual switch.

Do some more searching, not so long ago someone posted about the best way to do the manual switch on either this or the 7.3 forum.

Disconnect the purple wire on the grp and run a hot wire from battery, (problably should put in an inline fuse). Run the hot into the cab to where you want your switch, then run a wire from the other terminal on your switch to the terminal on the gpr that you took the purple wire off. It is best switch to use is either a push button or either a toggle with a safety over it so you don't leave it on. For me, holding the button got annoying so i put in a toggle with a safety.

Actually it's ZD1A for 6.9 and ZD9 for 7.3, the only difference is the electrical connector (electrode is 0.2mm shorter on 7.3 but this is irrelevant, that little is hard to even measure.) My bad. Although I think one year of 6.9 uses ZD9.

the zd 9 is the one with the spade terminal. That is what my 86 6.9 had.

Well I'm looking in the book and I have 83-86 PA302 and 87+ PA305. For some reason I'm based on HKT part numbers, they probably had the best catalog. I have some pretty good cross-reference info here that I put into a spreadsheet.

PA302 is also AC8G, CH80, WAP 80/88.
PA305 is also AC13G, CH84, or WAP 84.

With that said, was your 86 early or late 86?
