My 2003 7.3 4x4 just rolled 43,000. It has always been stored inside. It will make my 16 year old son a fine truck one day, after I die. BTW, I'm 54. I use it to haul a 2006 Northstar truck camper. I did add the 6.0 cooler apx 2 years ago.

2000 7.3

About 3 weeks ago I came across a great deal on a 2000 F-350 Dually with 382,000 miles. I bought it expecting it to need some work. Took it to the Ford dealership and other than the steering gear she passed with flying colors. Had a 6.0 awhile back but it will take a miracle to get me to drive anything but a 7.3 again....

Hey! Kids ride keep in mind I only weigh 160-165 lbs. I had the bottom cushion redone at 510,000 +- with extra padding for comfort still comfortable.Back in may when I retired it from the road I had new carpet and headliner put in when I put the truck to work I had removed the center console, passenger seat and back seat and stored them they still look like new this summer I will have the driver seat recovered as it does show a little wear on the fabric.Mike

I have 253000miles on mine , bought it as a wreak 3 years ago with 225k mi and did a total restoration on it. It was used in the oil patch of Alberta ,the box was fubar so I replaced it with a new takeoff from an '06 ,stripped the frame bare & epoxy coated it.
Took the cab off & pulled the motor to replace the leaking oil pan and since the pan was off I replaced the rod & main bearings.
I was amazed how clean the inside of the eng was.
The mains were perfect with no signs of wear, the rods had very minimal wear, probably didn't need to do either of them but I had it apart and what's $200 for bearings when I was spending 9 grand to do the project.
I've put over 30k miles (all towing a 24' enclosed 4 sled trailer) on it since I put it on the road and all I've had to do on it is 1 starter and the fuel line from the filter to the head (crappy p clamp wore thru the line) and a glow plug relay.
My buddy had a 7.3 go to 531000miles and then puke. But I know his maintence was poor at best. He had it in a F550 wreaker with a stick.
So even being abused they're pretty durable.

My F250 is now 9 years old, and has 99,000 miles. And, it's been paid for quite sometime.

My wife recently lost her original engagement ring, and is going bonkers. Now, she wants to replace it with a 3 carat diamond--just because we men bought a new Waverunner last year. I cannot get over the gall of her.

I just hope the SuperDuty lives for a long, long time, and I don't get any new truck bug. I need to save up for a new pontoon boat.

The 7.3 will last a long, long time properly maintained. Too bad the front suspension and transmissions wear prematurely. But, the bodies hold up very well--tight with little/no rattles, etc.

135000 on mine and it still feels like new. I've run Ford Synthetic and changed it every 3000 miles and run Standyne religously.

Let her spend her money how she wants.

If she wants you to pay for the new ring, though, that's the craziest thing I've ever heard.

My '99 7.3 has 342k and going strong. Changing the glowplugs today but it still runs like a champ. 3000 miles on the oil before it stops looking like it did when I put it in, I change it every 5k miles.

I think it's on it's second transmission, I tow with it ALL the time, it's had a programmer for at least the last 100k. Not much rust yet but I've been good at keeping the body up.

A few weeks ago I had to do some much needed maintenance on the door hinges/latches and the hood latch but nothing unexpected with nearly 350k!

I drive it hard. Has no signs of starting to wear out and I can only hope it lasts another 350k.

Mine (2000 CC 7.3L) has just past the 222,000 mile mark, and having the only issue other than the CPS which everyone knows about, the tranny finally gave out at 195,000 miles. I do some pulling, I've got a 9,000lb camper, and when it's marching band season I pull the equipment trailer so that's probably pulling about 5-6,000lb's without much of a problem with my 7.3L. I change the oil every 5,000 miles fuel filter is replaced every 10,000 miles I give the new tranny a complete flush every 16,000 miles I had every now and then some 2 stroke oil to help keep the injectors lubricated up and happy. I hoping I get atleast 350,000 miles out of mine, which I should get no problem at all.

238,xxx miles... BTS transmission (dreaded mechanical diode failure), second set of brake pads (Porterfields), 1 upper radiator hose, 2 starters, 2 sets of batteries, both UVC harnesses, 1 IDM, fuel bowl drain valve o-rings, replaced diff fluid with Redline 75-140, fourth set of tires, 1 water pump, rear outboard axle seal, 1 CPS... and I got 17-19 miles to the gallon coming from Steamboat Springs back to Dallas (hand calculated).

I just cracked mine open at 400K because it started smokin. 0.001-0.002 wear in the cylinders. Jury is still out on the heads. I think the smoke is from bad valve seals. I am using this opportunity to upgrade my turbo, injectors, etc.

I bought mine because of the longevity of the 7.3. I switched from a gas Chevy and couldn't be happier. I know a landscaping company owner who only buys Ford diesels and to this day, 11 Jan 2012, he has 10 7.3 with over 500,000 on the original engines. His oldest has 715,000. The older they get, the harder they get to start. An incredible feat for modern autos in my opinion and a testament to a well designed engine. Parts wear out around these engines, but with proper maintenance they last a very long time.

230k and still rolling.

I've done zero work to the engine. Oil and filters, one fuel leak, one tranny leak, and one alternator around 175K. PS pump finally let go the other day and will replace it and some idler/tensioner pulleys. I plan on putting a few more drivers seats in her before I send her to the bone yard! Oh yea, It has 230K on the seat too! 230K times 3 seats is 660K.

My 2000 F-250 made it 257,998 miles until the front end was "smacked" and the truck totaled when some dump arsh lady ran a red light. My current truck a 2001 F-250 with 229,250 miles on the clock needs too last at least 5 years which put's in in the 330K area.
