My 02 had 378,000 miles of work truck life hauling tar pots and roofing equipment around. An electrical fire killed it, motor was running like a top hauling bed fulls of wet dirt all weekend long when it burnt up

I guess I will jump into the fray. I have 74k miles on the truck. Became my secondary vehicle in 2005 when the company moved us into a nice new building with an underground parking garage in 2005. Probably a good thing since I dropped to about 2000 miles a year, and I am not sure I could convince my CFO to let me get a new truck. I am 47 and don't plan on buying another one. My biggest worry is that my pilot bearing will go out, and that I will have to buy a new transmission...I don't relish the thought of spending nearly $3k, but I will if I have to.

About the only whopper was that I had to have the injector O rings redone last summer...apparently they were falling apart and plugged up my ICP or IDM...

Hopefully, one day my son will get to take the truck off of my hands.

420xxx still runs like champ. just got it back up from a tear down for two blown head gaskets and broken glow plugs. poor thing has been abused its whole life. now it serves as a work truck for a lawn care business. cylinder walls looked good though. :icon_rolleyes:

7.3 longevity

Got 440K on my 97PS. Never had the heads off. John Wood Tranny fixed the weak link and it runs good. Noticed a slight drop in power pulling the hills with a 20ft gooseneck behind it loaded with firewood. Thought it was the best truck I ever owned until I bought the 2002PS. The 7.3 ford diesel will be recognized as one of the better diesel engines produced.

happy psd owner

I just turned 317,000 and she runs like the day I bought her with 160,000. I replaced the tranny at 290,000. I have replaced glow plugs twice, starter and cam sensor... Every one asked me why I bought it with so many miles on it. They don't ask that any more =)... I will buy an engine for it when it dies and will likely / hopefully never buy another rig... "take care of her and she will take care of you" Wish I could upload a pic. This thing is bad ass! I have a crew cab with a custom flatbed, AFE intake and 5"exhaust and 6 position power plant with high idle... LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! want the same engine with newer body. Only Cause I hate the mirrors I have now.

While it has been done the 7.3 is one hard engine to kill.

My only problem with it is that I am ticked off at myself for not picking up a newer one in the early 2000's when I had a chance to.

I just had to retire the original engine in my 95 F350 dually with 998,637 mi. while I probably could have made it to 1 million but, knowing I had a 3,800 mi. round trip coming up I didn't want to take the chance of ruining the block as I had it sold when I did the engine swap for $500 and I got to keep all sensors, turbo, injectors. The motor I had put in I bought back in 2007 it had 65,000 mi. paid $2000 for it. Before, installing I replaced all injector o-rings, rebuilt fuel bowl, new glow plugs, New fuel pump, deleted pedestal, bellowed up-pipes, New water pump, new front and rear main seal and a High pressure oil pump so, far so good I've put 850 mi. I just hope that it is as good as the original.

99’ F-250 with 297k miles and runs great. I feel like it will easily double that maybe triple it. I had to change out plenty of worn out parts as some of you have listed… rebuilt transmission too. Cost me a pretty penny but now she’s good to go for a while! Still cheaper than a new super duty and don’t have to pay those expensive taxes.
