Holds 17.5 I drain 7.5 with inline filter, flush out 10. I add as I flush. This is done at driving temp. Oil is warm. Bought 19 sp grade used 17.5 right on the dot for me. Check next day middle of marks.

Mine took just shy of 8 quarts with a pan drop nd replacing both the remote filter and the filter int he pan. Factory service manual calls for 7.5 quarts to start, then start the truck, move the gear selector through all the gears, let it get up to operating temp, check it again, and add as necessary. Only add about 1/2 pint at a time, as once you can see fluid on the stick a little fluid makes a big difference in the level.

I just drained the pan and changed the in line filter and used 8.5 quarts. I know what you are saying about the search. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/vomit.gif

Why would you guys go to the trouble of droping the pan on a 60k filter, change it then add 8 new qts. to ten old left in torque convertor? That like changing half your engine oil, and mixing new with old. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Factory service at 30k is 17.5 qt. flush plus inline filter. Pan filter is at 60k. Trans fluid change is torque convertor also.

I'm sorry I don't recall stating that I hadn't performed the factory service at 30k and 60k. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif You see I am at 77k so why not drop the in line filter and add some fresh Mercon SP in between the "factory service". Just a little added insurance on a $40k truck! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif My tranny oil looks beautiful, how bout yours?

How much Auto Trans Fluid for a change

Thanks,

The Trans holds 17.5 from Ford spec's.

Maps: I am sorry I read this wrong. Yes you can change, drain out 7.5-8 and change inline and pan filter. To get all the oil a flush is needed. Ford service is to flush it all.

If you or any body want's to add 7-8 qts of new oil with old, that's up to you on your 40k truck and 4k trans.

Maps: This is one of your quote or questions.

Tranny just started clunking yesterday when shifting from neutral/reverse to drive. I have an early build 03 with 47,000. Any ideas? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Thanks for answering your insurance question. I don't have trans problems. I service by factory spec's and sometimes before service mileage.

O thanks for asking how my truck is.

BL,

Not trying to start a pissing match here but you are missing my point. I have done all of the factory service as well as added fresh Mercon SP and changed my inline filter between factory service as a little extra service. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif I plan on having this truck a long time.

Taken from Dieselman's site:

"Intermittent Clunk from TorqShift Transmission:
Trucks equiped with the TorqShift may exhibit a clunk when shifting from drive or reverse to park, from reverse to drive, and/or at the 2-3 upshift. If these conditions are intermittent, it is normal play/backlash in the drivetrain. Broadcast Message 7028."

could anyone give me a little help on changing ALL the 17.5 quarts of trans fluid, where are the 2 filters located? how do you get all the fluid out?

thanks in advance
