i would like to introduce myself first. i just bought my first diesel truck. its a 99 PSD, short box, ext cab, 4x4 with 90k on it. i'm still in iraq right now, so i've been buying allot of parts off of the net. so far i've bought a 4in turbo back, s&b intake, TS 6 position chip, gauges, propane, and water/meth kit, hpx line, pre-pump in tank kit. my goal is to eventually make 500 to 550hp. i was wondering what the best way to go about getting this much HP. i would like to do it one step at a time, since a military paycheck isn't the best. i know that i will have to get a hpop mod, regulated return, injectors, and a turbo. what would be the best order to do these mods? will i also have to put in head studs? i think that someday i would like to run nitrous, so i'm sure that i would have to get headstuds then. what else would i have to do to make sure that the motor doesn't turn into an expensive piece of scrap metal? i know that i've got allot to learn, so any advice would be great, thanks

IF you spend enough money on your chip and tuning you could make a great ways up their, we had a duramax that was crazy HP's with a 4thousand dollar chip. The propane and other injection kit will add close to another 80 to 100...I would buy an aftermarket turbo though if you have the doe. I know ur in the army and dont have bills too pay most likely and are young which so am I but dont go stupid. My cousins and older brother are serving currently and all of them are waisting their money invest in something while you have a completely investable income. Not saying it wouldn't be awesome to have a kick butt diesel, but think about the future not playin around in ur truck lol.

Duramax is a whole different animal. It can do 500 with just easy parts like a chip, and intake and exhaust. By the way it doesn't take a 4 grand chip to make 500 in a dmax. With the mods that the above poster has he should have between 280 and 300. 500 will require injectors and a turbo at least. IMHO get the injectors first and have your chip retuned for them and be easy on it till you get the turbo. Then get a turbo that is pretty big like a modded H2E or bigger.

Personally I would sell the propane kit if my goal was 500 HP. Sure it will get you 80 to a 100 HP now but will have to go when you get the bigger injectors later. Plus you might get the temptation now to turn it up and bust something.

Then I would save a little more $$$ and get a dual HPOP set up first.

Now if you have an early 99 you would be ahead with a different turbo.
Dominator 66 or a H2 variant.
Then I think you will need mini-me or bigger injectors.

I was thinking about the hpop first. I've heard allot of really good things about it. mostly that it smoothes out the power, torque curve, and mpg. As far as a turbo, will the dominator make the 500 mark? I was looking at the sledgehammer, or a twin turbo setup(I like the bling factor). But if the dominator will make 500hp, thats allot of money that i could spend somewhere else. Thanks for the input

Ditch the LP.

Add:
Head studs
Big Oil
B Code injectors
H2E or QSSB Turbo
Good DP tuning
ITP Fuel system
Upgraded Trans. and cooler
Upgraded IC if towing heavy

Should be in the 500+ range.

Probably more than your stock forged rods can handle.

You can get right a 500 and just a little over on stock oil with A codes. And hybrids with big nozzles will probably be more then your rods can handle.
