I did a search but didn't find any info... Does anyone know how to remove the amber lens cover on the tow mirrors on 05/06 SuperDuty Lariats and KR's? I cracked one on the way into the garage the other day and I am gonna have to replace it. Thanks,

Wife did the same thing to mine, hasn't driven it since. I got the info from this site but I can't remember which member responded. You can't buy just the lens, you need the complete cover. The local ford dealer tried to tell me you needed to replace the mirror, but that ain't so. If you tilt the mirror, you can see the clips behind it. I think there are four. Use a screw driver to release the clips and the cover comes off. There is a plug for the LED lights. I bought the replacement from 1st ford parts. It was somewhere around $75.00. Simple 10 minute job.

TLG,

That is NOT what I want to hear. The King Ranch has covers that are the same color as the body (in my case white). I can't use the standard black cover. Also, went to 1st Ford parts (and several others and drilled down to the door mirror covers for tow mirrors and there were no part numbers listed for even the standard covers. Am I looking in the wrong place?

If your painted cover is not messed up just get the cheaper textured one and swap the light out of it. Just be careful of how many LED lights you have on the mirrors. The early ones had more LEDs than the later years.

FMT,

Thanks for the part numbers... the cover has no damage. I just caught the very end of the mirror (the amber lens cover) on the garage door molding (I have about 2" on each side as I go through the door). It cracked the lens cover but everything else is fine.

I'll pull the cover today and see if I can't change out the lens assembly. From now on, I'm folding those suckers in before heading into the garage!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

I snagged mine comeing OUT of the garage, so i took the old one and took it apart and took pictures of some things on it in case others needed to see how they are attached. Hope it helps!!

Pics are labeled Mirror1-5.jpg...one shows the tabs on the COVER, and the others show where the tabs are when its still attached to the main part of the mirror. The arrows show how you need to push to unlock them. The main part is show without the glass....when i hit the garage, my glass fell out and rolled or slid under my tire....so when i pulled forward, i ran it over...bad bad bad day. I had to buy the whole mirror.

Hey MOFISHIN,, I can help you fix that problem,,,,,,,
I would GLADLY trade you your Trailer towing mirrors for my "Paddle" mirrors off my 03 XLT "SPORT",,,,,, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif Then you wouldnt have to worry about breaking the lenses again!! Think of the relief you would have,,,the pressure would be off!

AggieFord4X4,

Great pics! I had mine apart before I got your reply, but they are exactly where I found the clips. I am sure these can be used by a lot of folks who have garages deep enough to accept their Superduty's with TTM's. In my case I have to wedge the 350 dually through either of two single wide garage doors (2" clearance on either side). After this experience I will fold the drivers side in when entering and exiting, so I can provide a cushion on the passenger side (that's the side I always catch going out...).

er...uh..., Thanks for the offer, but I think I will keep 'em and just try to be a little more careful when exiting the Garage. Besides, if I had those mirrors the next thing I would need would be a good fiberglass repair for my "hips"!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

Just curious, folks, reading this thread. Are the lights themselves attached to the covers? In other words, if I buy just the lighted covers, can I jury-rig a wire to them and make them work? I have an early '03, and was fortunate to get the 7.3 but not the lighted mirrors. Sorry for the "hijack", and thanks!
