****** fixed it **********A while back I had a starting issue, so i took off the filler bolt to check the level of the oil in the hpop. I had a heck of a time getting it out due the the last guy that owned this truck stripped it out. Once i got it out ( with a screw extractor) I replaced it with a common bolt and o-ring. I had noi leaks till this weekend. So the other day I evacuated my hpop to change the oil in it. BTW it runs better except for the leak from the plug. So I have 2 options get a better o ring or replace the plug. Any suggestions? Karl

I dont quite understand what plug you are talking about. Are you talking about the 1/4" pipe plug on the oil reservoir? If so, there isn't an o-ring there. They use a tapered 1/4" inch pipe plug that wedges itself in the more you tighten it.

I think they switched plug styles sometime in '96. I have a '97 and it has an o-ring plug too.

The previous owner strippped the head so when i got it out i replaced it with bolt.

Had same problem

Lost plug, it fell down into the bowels of the engine..... Replacement available as part of HPOP, was told.. So, used a bolt... Ground hex off head, making it round for clearance issues... Cut screwdriver slot in top w/hacksaw.. THEN went to find a 'gasket' that would hold the pressure..
After several tries, including O-rings, copper, etc..found a nylon washer of correct size, and that seems to be holding OK..

It sounds like it just takes a standard dash size o-ring boss fitting that can be matched up at any hydraulic supplier...anyone have a picture of this new design hpop reservoir?....I cant inagine why there'd be a clearance issue. Although mine is just the 1/4" pipe plug, I can see it clear as day.

I would like to know were the bolt for the HPOP is located at, i have owned my truck for 2 years and never checked the level of oil in it. I just thought it re-filled when you changed oil on the engine. any help in this matter is greatly appreciated

The oil level in the reservoir doesn't need to be checked, it is replenished by the engine lubricating system. The only time you may wanna check it is if you are having hard starting problems. In this situation the oil in the reservoir drains back to the oil pan. When this happens, you have to crank extra long to fill the reservoir up untill the hp oil pump can get enough oil to actuate the injectors. Most of us go into the oil reservoir through the plug to suck most of the oil out to minimize the oil mess when removing a HPOP.
